Meet Velour 🐇🖤

Velour is a velvety black beauty with a big personality. She has a soft, elegant side, but she can also be feisty and opinionated. She knows what she likes and communicates her boundaries clearly.

Velour is spayed and vaccinated for RHDV2. She is currently looking for a forever home with a neutered male rabbit and a family that understands rabbit behavior and bonding. The Bunny Basement will help with the bonding process so both rabbits can go home together and live happily as a bonded pair.

If you are interested in adopting Velour or would like to learn more about her, please send me a message. 🖤

Do you have baby bunny fever? Here’s what to expect when you are expecting a baby bun (and how to stay sane). 🐰✨

I just published a new blog: “What to Expect When Raising a Baby Rabbit Indoors” and it covers the stuff most people don’t tell you until you’re already chasing a tiny fluffball away from a phone charger.

Inside the post:

1️⃣ The first-week “quiet nervous” phase vs. the “tiny tornado” phase

2️⃣ The easiest indoor setup that actually works

3️⃣ Baby bunny food basics (and what causes tummy trouble)

4️⃣ Litter training expectations (progress, not perfection)

5️⃣ The early warning signs you should never ignore

If you have a new baby rabbit at home, drop a 🐰 and tell me what you’re stuck on right now.

Last updated on January 11, 2026Raising a baby rabbit indoors is equal parts adorable and chaotic. One minute you are watching tiny binkies like it is a live-action cartoon. The next, you are sprinting across the room because someone found a phone charger. The good news: indoor life is one of the saf...

A Quick Follow-Up on Christmas Rabbits 🐰

After sharing my post about not gifting rabbits for Christmas, I wanted to add a little more context.

This message isn’t meant to shame anyone or take the joy out of the holidays. It comes from experience. I’ve seen what happens when rabbits are brought home without enough preparation, and I’ve cared for many bunnies who ended up overwhelmed, stressed, or needing rehoming.

Rabbits can be incredible companions in the right home. They’re intelligent, emotional, and deeply sensitive animals. But they thrive best when they’re chosen intentionally, not impulsively.

If you’re calling because you genuinely want to learn:

I’m happy to help answer questions and share education around proper rabbit care, housing, and long-term commitment.

If you’re calling for a last-minute holiday pet:

I encourage you to pause and plan instead. A little preparation goes a long way in giving a rabbit the life it deserves.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out with curiosity and kindness. Education and intention are how we do better for animals.

I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls asking about Christmas rabbits, so I want to gently but clearly share this:

A rabbit should never be a surprise holiday gift.

Rabbits are wonderful animals, but they are not easy, temporary, or kid-proof pets.

Here’s what most people don’t realize:

• Rabbits live 8–12 years and need daily care

• They require a specialized diet and a rabbit-savvy vet

• They are fragile and can be injured easily if handled incorrectly

• Many do not like being picked up or cuddled

• They need space to run and enrichment, not a small cage

• Holiday noise and activity can cause serious stress and illness

Every year after Christmas, rescues see an influx of rabbits who were given with good intentions but without enough preparation.

If you’re thinking about a rabbit:

Please wait. Do the research. Visit a rescue. Make it a planned, lifelong decision for your household, not a holiday surprise.

I’m always happy to answer questions, educate, and help families decide if a rabbit is the right fit, just not as a Christmas gift.
