Nassau & Blake Urban Flowers

Nassau & Blake Urban Flowers Born from rebuilding — of land, of rhythm, of self. Every stem is grown on this historic corner and shared with the community.

This is a journey of learning, of slowing down, of creating something beautiful right here in the SE side of Cedar Rapids.

When I started Nassau & Blake Urban Flowers, I thought I was simply growing flowers. What I've learned along this journey from seed to stem is it's really connection and simple moments of joy many of us are craving... so let's make it happen.

I'm excited to announce our first Nassau & Blake events:

A 45-minute slow flow yoga class on the porch followed by time together in the flower rows to create your own bouquet.

- July 14th - https://www.facebook.com/events/1545962810249760
- August 5th (Kameron's Birthday Edition!) - https://www.facebook.com/events/1496896428842471

🐾 Dogs & Donuts - July 11th 9-11 AM

It finally rained… and more rain is headed our way over the next few days. If you’re thinking of planting yourself a little flower joy this season, now’s the time to get them in the ground! Zinnias are cut and come again flowers, meaning… the more you cut and share, the more flowers the plant will produce. Both seeds and starts are in the stand today along with new plants and vintage finds.

🍞 Phil’s back this weekend with sourdough loaves to make your stop by the stand even sweeter! 🍞

One month in, and May taught me a lot. 🌸

It taught me that starting something new is exciting, humbling, messy, and sometimes a little scary.

I’ve always been pretty risk-averse. In fact, if my former boss Bob is reading this, he can probably confirm that I preferred a well-thought-out plan over a leap of faith every single time.

And yet, here I am.

Trading zoom meetings for flower rows. Growing something from seed to stem and sharing it with this community.

I’ve also learned that big dreams are a lot easier when you have people who believe in them. My husband Jamie has supported every wild idea, every seed order, every garden expansion, and every “I think we should try…” conversation that got us here.

Most of all, I’ve learned that sometimes the things that scare us the most are the things worth doing.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by, shared a post, bought flowers, bread, a funky vintage find, or plants, or simply cheered me on. One month in, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

The 2026 plant wall is officially loading!

This is the third season I’ve used this setup, and while it currently looks like I have a slight fern obsession, just give it a few weeks. The flowers and vining plants will soon start weaving their way through.

One of my favorite things is finding new uses for old things. The giant planter box underneath was built from fencing panels I spied a neighbor getting rid of a few years ago. Around here, we love a good second life.

Swipe to see how this wall looked in previous seasons and where it’s headed this year. 🌸

One of my favorite parts of this journey has been connecting with so many amazing people. Many of you have said you’re also craving connection, creativity, and a reason to slow down for a few hours.

As I dream about what’s ahead for Nassau & Blake, I’d love your feedback on a few ideas and open to any others you may have!

Which of these events would you attend?

Garden Party
Bring your bestie or come alone for an evening of flowers, mocktails, light bites, and creating your own arrangement.

Porch Yoga
A relaxing yoga class on the porch followed by conversation and connection.

Yoga & You-Pick
Yoga on the porch followed by picking your own bouquet to take home.

Bread & Blooms
Fresh bread, butter boards and jams, flowers, and a simple gathering around good things.

Coffee & Cuttings
Coffee, pastries, houseplants, and learning how to propagate your own plants, bring a small cutting to swap and expand your collection.

My questions for you:
- Would you come?
- Which sounds most appealing?
- Is there something else you’d love to see happen on this little corner?

I’m still learning as I go, and your ideas help shape what Nassau & Blake becomes, for us all!

Reminder that the Nassau & Blake Stand will be closed this weekend.

We’ve been off adventuring in Colorado this week and now on our way home to Iowa after saying “see ya later” to Devan for the summer!

Meanwhile, Jack (my son) has been home holding down watering duty and keeping everything growing!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend — we’ll see you back at the stand next weekend with more flowers, fresh bread and good things to share.

Thanks to each of you who stopped by today and snatched up all the baked goodies and fresh flowers!

Devan started the day with 37 orange loaves, banana bread and protein balls and ended it with just 2 remaining. How cool is that??

Tomorrow we will open at 9-3 with orange loaf and banana bread restocked along with wrapped flowers! Tomorrow will be the last day this season for peonies and irises!

P.s. how amazing are these senior pictures??
