IHA’s Spayghetti, No Balls fundraiser is just a few months away, and we are now actively accepting donations for our popular wine pull!

Have an extra bottle (or two) of wine you’d be willing to part with? Wine donations of any variety or value are appreciated and can be dropped off at the IHA clinic during regular business hours.

Every bottle donated helps fund lifesaving spay and neuter surgeries!

Summer in Iowa can bring beautiful sunny days—but it can also bring severe storms, tornadoes, flooding, and other unexpected emergencies. While it’s never easy to think about disaster situations, being prepared can make all the difference when every minute counts.

Taking a few simple steps now can help keep both you and your pets safer during severe weather, evacuations, or unexpected emergencies.

Here are a few ways to prepare:

✔️ Make sure your pet’s collar tag includes their name and your current contact information
✔️ If your pet is microchipped, double check that the registration and contact details are up to date
✔️ Keep recent photos of your pets on your phone in case you become separated
✔️ Stay current on vaccines—or update expired vaccines as soon as possible. Emergency shelters and boarding facilities often require proof of vaccination to help keep all pets safe and healthy.

We hope you never have to face an emergency situation, but having a plan in place can help bring peace of mind for you and protection for the pets you love most. Learn more about emergency preparedness here: https://iowahumanealliance.org/pet-preparedness

Did you know it costs $50 to spay/neuter one cat at Iowa Humane Alliance? That’s exactly what was raised from redeeming just a little over ONE WEEK’S worth of donated cans!

A huge thank you to everyone who has dropped off cans and bottles to support IHA’s mission, and to our amazing volunteer, Ann Rude for redeeming these donations at the Can Shed!

A couple bags of cans/bottles may not seem like much, but they help fund lifesaving surgeries that prevent unwanted litters and improve the lives of pets throughout Eastern Iowa.

Your empties truly make a difference! Redeemable cans and bottles can be dropped off at any of the 5 Can Shed locations, or drop your donations in the bins at the IHA Clinic.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Sometimes the best therapy has four paws, a wagging tail, or a gentle purr.

Pets bring comfort on hard days, routine during stressful times, and unconditional love when we need it most. Whether it’s a dog encouraging you to get outside for a walk, a cat curling up beside you after a long day, or simply knowing a furry friend is waiting at home, animals have a special way of supporting our emotional well-being.

At Iowa Humane Alliance, we see every day how the bond between people and pets changes lives—for both humans and animals alike. By helping families access affordable spay/neuter care, vaccines, and resources, we’re helping keep pets healthy, in homes, and by the side of the people who love them most.

This month, take a moment to celebrate the pets who make life brighter. Share a photo of the furry friend who helps your mental health in the comments below.
