Sign up to be a volunteer during the Freedom Festival Parade (6/27 at Guthridge Park, scroll down on page to find CVHS!) and for every 3-hour shift worked, CVHS receives a donation of $25! You do not have to be a CVHS volunteer to do this. For more information and to sign-up, visit:

Assisting with event setup and teardown

Let me paint the picture for you:

Friday morning I arrived for the day and went into the cat room and made eye contact with Focus- who is not only the coolest cat but the best cat...ever? Anyways, heart starts to break because HOW HAS HE BEEN HERE TWO MONTHS? Okay, I'll just bring him into my office for the day.

You guys, please, there has to be someone out there looking for the best roommate ever. I spent 75% of my day saying "OMG YOUR SO CUTE I CAN'T HANDLE IT" and the other 25% taking pictures of him.

Focus is 13 years old and again, is the best cat ever. He is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus positive so he should live with other FIV positive cats if rooming with other felines. He was around other cats and dogs before coming here and got along with them well.

He is back in his cat condo in the adoption room for the weekend- come say hi!

This little guy's story could have ended very differently 😔

Yesterday, we were called to pick up a "small animal found in a trash bag with a ribbon tied around it's body". Thankfully, the caller noticed the bag moving and made sure he got the help he needed.

While we're not sure how this sweet senior gentleman (we've named him Geronimo) ended up abandoned in a tied trash bag with a ribbon tied around him, we can confirm he is safe and settling in with one of our staff members, where he'll receive the care and comfort he deserves 🥹

Nene is at the shelter this week 🐾🐶

This sweet girl has been thriving in a foster home for the past couple of weeks to give her a change of scenery, but while her foster family enjoys a well-deserved vacation, Nene is hanging out with us at the shelter. We'd absolutely love to see her find her home before her foster returns so they can open their home to help another dog in need💕

Want to know what life with Nene is really like? Here's what her foster family has to say:

"Nene is an energetic, happy dog! She loves to play and just about any toy will do. She is great at amusing herself but is also working to perfect her game of fetch. When she is done playing, she easily switches to nap mode. If we are on the couch, she is sure to be there too!

Nene has quickly learned basic commands (sit, come, no) and would probably do just about anything for a treat!

She has been fantastic with our dog. She brings the puppy energy yet is very submissive. She has done great in a kennel at night and is working hard on potty training - she knows what to do outside and is now just working on perfecting the “ask”. Nene loves to be outside - whether on a walk or sunbathing. A walk through the park is her perfect start to the day!
