Here at Dogs Forever we open our hearts and bring dogs into our care from counties without animal shelters, shelters where dogs are euthanized due to overcrowding, and other reasons such as an owner has passed away and there is no family to take the dog in. With our intimate setting of kennels, the noise level is not offensive to dogs or people, which helps keep the stress among our dogs at a mini

mum. We also use classical and jazz music to help provide a calm and soothing environment for the dogs. Our all-volunteer staff is committed to the well-being of the dogs in our care. Three times each day, seven days a week, volunteers walk, feed, and interact with our dogs. They all receive the upmost medical and dental care from day one with us. Some of them have never known a kind, gentle, loving touch. It's our duty as their caregivers to walk beside them during their journey with us. We provide them with those feelings and emotions to feel safe and confident while we find their forever home. This isn’t just an event… it’s a full-on date night experience. 💛 Your Dog Planned This Date - A Pupdate Experience fundraiser is coming up and we are so excited.

Sunday, July 17th hosted at RAYGUNshirts in Cedar Rapids.

You and your dog will rotate through:

🎨 A painting station (yes… your dog is the artist)
📸 An instant photo moment you’ll actually keep with adorable photo strips from Corridor Photo Booths & DJs.
🐽 A nose print keepsake (the cutest thing you’ll ever own)
🧁 Two enrichment treat games + pup cups (because obviously)
🛍️ Take-home goodies for both of you with pupcakes from The Barkery LLC and Character cups for the humans from Urban Boards.

It’s fun, a little chaotic, very cute… and something you’ll actually remember.

✨ If you’re seriously interested in adopting, please fill out an application ahead of time. It helps move things along SO much faster for both you and the dogs.
✨ All humans living in the home should come meet the dog.
✨ Chevy girl is sitting out Saturday open hours for now, but applications are still open for meet-and-greets by appointment.

It's shaping up to be a beautiful day on Sunday the 7th. Come support Dogs Forever's Annual Barks n' Bubbles Spring Car Wash Fundraiser!

Sunday, June 7th from 11-2 PM

Located in the parking lot of Canine Corner and Cats too: 1208 1207 8th ST NW, Cedar Rapids, 52405

We'll have signs on where to pull in from Ellis across from The Flamingo, a cashier to give your donation to, and a volunteer to help direct traffic through to Canine Corner & Cats Too's parking lot.

Watch for the yellow and white DOGS FOREVER EVENT/FUNDRAISER signs along the roadways!

Want to be even more involved? We are always looking for volunteers to help us wash and dry cars! Let us know and we can send you our sign up link. Serious volunteer hearts only, we are 100% volunteer run and are 100% on you and your commitment.

What you see at the shelter is only a tiny piece of who Francis really is.

The chaos, the constant movement, strangers coming and going, dogs barking at each other… it’s a LOT for him. Francis is a sensitive little guy, and shelter environment stress makes him a little on edge and not quite his best self. But if he doesn't come on Saturdays, the perfect person that might be just stopping in could miss out on him. So he comes. And he gets tons of love from volunteers who take him around on walks and play fetch with him and give him lots of belly rubs (And snacks of course).

But in foster care?
Completely different dog.

At home, where he feels safe and understands the routine, Francis is sweet, snuggly, funny, affectionate, and honestly kind of adorable. He loves fetch, couch time, peaceful walks, and quietly hanging out with his person like a tiny roommate with opinions.

He’s currently on medication for anxiety (“issues in his tissues,” as we lovingly call them 😌), and it has helped him SO much. He’s making really wonderful progress.

What Francis needs now isn’t “fixing.”
He needs:
💛 consistency
💛 calm leadership
💛 clear boundaries
💛 and someone willing to continue helping him feel safe and successful

He’s a little dog who has spent most of his life being treated like a tiny baby instead of a dog who benefits from structure and expectations. He’s learning things like:
🚪 no barking at the door
🛋️ settling when guests come over
🐾 respecting boundaries and routines
…and he’s doing really well.

Francis is not for everyone.
And we’re okay saying that.

He needs a calm adult-only home with no other pets and people who understand he's just going to need a minute okay? He warms up very quickly, especially if you have snacks. 😁

But for the RIGHT person?
He is going to be such an incredibly rewarding dog.

And because we know the shelter doesn’t show his best self, his foster has very kindly offered to let potential adopters come meet him in her home environment where his real personality shines.

So if Francis sounds like the kind of dog you’ve been looking for, please don’t let one overwhelmed shelter interaction make the decision for you. We would absolutely love for you to fill out an application and email us to schedule a foster meet-and-greet with him. If you are a good fit, we will happily get in touch with his foster to see if there's a day/time that would work best for everyone.

His person is out there somewhere.
And we really believe they’re going to adore him once they truly get to know him. 💛

THINGS GOOBER TAKES VERY SERIOUSLY: 💛

🤪 being involved in absolutely everything
💥 chaotic play sessions followed by immediate naps

At 1.5 years old, Goober is basically a giant happy toddler in a Lab-ish body. He is goofy, social, affectionate, and genuinely wakes up every day ready to party.

And honestly? The BIGGEST thing we’ve learned about him is this:

✨ Goober REALLY needs another playful dog in the home. ✨

Not in a casual “oh he likes other dogs” kind of way.

We mean:
another dog to wrestle with,
run laps with,
play bitey-face with,
zoom around the yard with,
and dramatically flop beside afterward like exhausted little athletes.

He absolutely comes alive around canine friends and would thrive in a home with a playful buddy who enjoys his enthusiastic style of friendship. A fenced yard for all his important Goober activities would definitely be on his wishlist too.

He’s still polishing up things like leash manners, but he makes up for it by being ridiculously lovable and bringing nonstop joy everywhere he goes.

He enjoys fetch, relaxed walks, and couch time, and he’s happiest in a home where things move at a slower pace. Francis does best with calm adults in a home without kids or other pets, and he likes to take his time warming up—but once he trusts you, he’s incredibly sweet and steady.

CURRENT STEFAN OBSESSIONS: 💛

🧸 kiddie pools filled with toys
🐶 wrestling with his canine foster siblings
🏃 dramatic backyard zoomies
🎉 carrying random treasures around the house like he personally earned them
😴 immediately passing out afterward

At 5 months old, Stefan is absolutely thriving in foster care. He’s doing great with house training, learning his manners, and proving every day that he’s equal parts goofy, sweet, and ridiculously fun to have around.

His foster family has learned one VERY important thing about him:

✨ this boy LOVES another playful dog in the home ✨

Having canine buddies has brought him completely out of his shell. He wants someone to run with, wrestle with, play with, and then cuddle up next to when the party is over.

Honestly? He’s just a really happy puppy who’s loving life right now.

A fenced yard for all his zoomies and toy adventures would definitely make his dream home even better. 💛

Athena is basically what happens when joy, athleticism, and a really good leash walker all get combined into one 44-pound 1 year old girl. ☀️

She’s got that “wow, this is actually a pleasant walk” energy — easy, engaged, and genuinely fun to take places.

But once she’s off leash (yard mode activated), she’s all about speed, play, and big feelings in the best way. 🐾

The important thing to know: she is DONE with the “destroy your house puppy era”… but very much NOT done with the “let’s play HARD and live loud” era.

Athena really comes alive with another playful dog. Not just a neighborly co-exister — a full-on bestie situation. The kind where they wrestle, chase, zoom, and then instantly melt into a shared nap pile like nothing happened. 💛

A fenced yard + a fun dog friend = her dream setup.

And in between all the action? She’s super affectionate. The kind of dog who still wants to be close to her people, checking in, soaking it all in, and being part of everything you do.

She’s currently thriving in foster care and just getting better every day.

Breaking news: Francis is still waiting for his person, and frankly he’s being very patient about the whole thing. 💛

Some dogs dream about:
✨ dog parks
✨ nonstop excitement
✨ making 700 new friends every day

Francis would like to respectfully decline all of that.

Francis is 2.5 years old, around 20 pounds, and specializes in:
🎾 intense games of fetch
🛋️ professional-level relaxing
🚶 peaceful little walks
👀 quietly monitoring household activities like a tiny security guard with opinions

His ideal home is less “party house” and more:
“we accidentally stayed on the couch together for four hours.”

He’s looking for calm adults, no kids, no other pets, and humans who understand that trust takes a little time. Francis isn’t the kind of dog who meets you once and immediately acts like you’ve known each other forever.

He’s more like:
“Hmm. I will observe you carefully first.”
And honestly? Respect.

But once he feels comfortable, he’s SUCH a sweet little guy. The kind of dog who just wants his people, his routines, and a peaceful life where nobody is asking him to attend brunch (unless you're buying...)
