*** EUTHANIZED DUE TO INABILITY TO BREATHE ON HER OWN. Your life mattered Ruth! ***

PRIORITY PLACEMENT: PNEUMONIA

**A $500 STIPEND IS AVAILABLE TO THE NEW HOPE PARTNER THAT PULLS RUTH!**

Date of Intake: 11-Oct-2024

** UPDATE **
A staff member writes:
Ruth is still in need 10/28. Sweet angel Ruth has been at VEG for a couple days and staff have fallen in love with her. They made her "Dog of the Week" and reported she has been a dream to work with / hasn’t given them any trouble. The great news for Ruth is that she is slowly improving with time please see below from the vet team: “Ruth is doing much better today - she actually ate a little for them today and is wagging her tail. They will wean her out of O2 today and while she could likely be discharged tonight, I requested they keep until morning."

Darling little sweetheart Ruth was found tied to a fence. Police responded and reported that she had recently had puppies. She has been highly social, sweet and snuggly from the start at the shelter, but unfortunately she sometimes gets scared on leash, although she is improving. Help her feel safe in a quiet home where children are age 13 or older, and Ruth can decompress. Ruth is recovering after having caught pneumonia at the shelter, and needs a home where she can be treated like the queen she is. Please message us today!

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together!

I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

I would do best in a home with only adult humans.

engage.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:

INTAKE BEHAVIOR:
Date of intake: 11-Oct-2024
Summary: None reported

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Date of initial: 12-Oct-2024
Summary: Social, allowed handling

ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Ruth so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Level 3

Recommendations: No children (under 13)

Recommendations comments:
No children (under 13): Due to fearful behavior we recommend an adult only home.

Potential challenges: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:
Fearful: Ruth has been observed to baulk frequently while on leash. During her stay in shelter Ruth has been observed to improve with handlers. She has been observed to walk to leash with coaxing. It is important to move slowly with Ruth, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression.
