Emergency Care Starts Before the Emergency 🚨🐴
When your horse has an emergency, the last thing you want to be wondering is, “Who can I call?”
As an ambulatory equine practice, we know that emergency preparedness starts with an established veterinary relationship. That’s why we participate in a cooperative call arrangement with Phoenix Equine Veterinary Services, Dr. Alexia Ferrante and Dr. Anne Marie Wilson, allowing a trusted group of equine veterinarians to provide after-hours coverage for established clients on nights and weekends.
❓But what does “established client” actually mean?
It means having an ongoing veterinary relationship—not simply having your horse seen once several years ago. For our practice, established patient care means maintaining regular veterinary care, including yearly wellness examinations and completing recommended follow-up, diagnostics, treatments, and preventive care as appropriate for your horse. This allows us to keep current medical records and, most importantly, maintain up to date knowledge of your horse’s health.
This is an essential part of the Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). Your veterinarian needs sufficient knowledge of your horse to make appropriate medical decisions, and there needs to be a plan for follow-up care or emergency coverage when your regular veterinarian is unavailable.
That’s also why our cooperative relationship with our trusted veterinary partners is so valuable. When you call after hours, you’re not calling a completely unfamiliar veterinarian with no information about your horse. The on-call veterinarian can access the appropriate medical records and provide the best care possible. And if for some reason we are not available, several other options are made available to you so you don’t wonder what to do.
We encourage every horse owner to:
🐴 Establish a relationship with an equine veterinarian before an emergency occurs.
🩺 Keep your horse’s wellness examinations and recommended care up to date.
📋 Make sure your veterinarian has current medical information for your horse.
📞 Know exactly how to reach your veterinarian for after-hours emergencies.
Because when your horse needs help at 2 a.m. on a Saturday, having a veterinary team that already knows your horse matters.
Give us a call at 📞602-551-6010 if you are facing an emergency. Emergency coverage is available to established clients according to our practice policies and we do our best to provide top notch service in your time of need 🚒🐴
