We would like to welcome Dr. McCarthy to our team! She will be starting as an ambulatory doctor in September! We’re so excited to have her and look forward to seeing her thrive at Chaparral.

Kerry McCarthy, DVM

“I was born and raised on the west coast in Oregon. I started showing horses at a young age, initially with hunter jumpers then transitioning to the all-around performance horse world showing both AQHA and APHA through middle and high school. In my first year of college, I decided to switch things up and started riding and showing reining and cow horses. I instantly felt at home with the reining industry and continued to ride and show through all of college and continue to do so today. I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University. Post graduation I worked at the 6666 Ranch in Texas where I combined my love for the western performance horse and veterinary medicine. There I focused mainly on sports medicine and reproduction which have always been, and will continue to be my passions. I also enjoy general medicine, dentistry, and endoscopy procedures. I take pride in the quality of my work and am always striving for more opportunities to learn new techniques or continue to perfect the skills I already have. My hobbies outside of work and horse showing include hiking, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.”

We are excited to welcome our new interns, Dr. Jessica Boos and Dr. Sophia Bookas to our team!

Dr. Jessica Boos
Dr. Boos is originally from Olympia, Washington, and attended Washington State University. After moving to Arizona, she downsized her herd to one barrel horse and a one-eyed red Australian Shepherd.
Her special interests include sports medicine, barrel racing, and western performance horses. Jessica’s favorite part of veterinary medicine is building relationships with clients and helping them achieve their goals with their horses.
An interesting fact about Jessica is that she competed in WASET growing up and continued competing with barrel horses throughout her undergraduate studies and veterinary school. More recently, she has enjoyed learning breakaway roping. Welcome, Dr. Boos! Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

Dr. Sophia Bookas
Dr. Bookas is from Southport, Connecticut, and attended Gettysburg College. She has a dog named Drako, a Kuwaiti Village Dog.
Her interests outside of veterinary medicine include running, cycling, swimming, hiking, and horseback riding. Sophia’s favorite part of her job is caring for horses and the many other animals that come her way.
A fun fact about Sophia is that she completed her first marathon during veterinary school and hopes to continue running despite the Arizona heat!
Welcome, Dr. Bookas! Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

We are thrilled to have both Dr. Boos and Dr. Bookas join our team and look forward to the knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication they bring to our practice.
