Let's talk about dematting services. The why doesn't matter. We all have things that happen in life. A loved one gets sick, divorces happen, financial hardships can happen to any of us. No negative comments on this post, please. This little girl was turned in to a rescue over in the Bloomington area from Amish breeders. She was adopted out one year ago to a local family. The coat got away from them because she is a straight, fine-haired Cavapoo. She was not on a regular grooming schedule, so here we are. But the upside is, here we are. Mom scheduled her to help her. She was aware that it was awful and that we had to shave her down and start over. This sweet girl was so completely and utterly great about this. Her matting was so dense that it took 1.5 hours to free her legs. I had to use a 10 blade on her, which normally we use a 7. She was matted to the skin. She thankfully didn't have any skin issues and was happy. I'm sure she's lighter in her little mind and zonked out tonight. With matting like this, it can be semi-normal for ear hematomas to happen overnight. What happens is the matting restricts blood flow slightly to the ear, and when we shave it off, it causes a tingly sensation that will make the dog shake its head, causing repeated trauma to the ear pinna. When the owner wakes up the next day, the ear is filled with blood and needs to be treated by a veterinarian. Thankfully, this didn't happen to her, and she didn't start to immediately shake her head. I educated her mama, and she fully understood. She was thankful and patient. This took 3 hours to do today. The dog owners little granddaughter opened up her little purse and tipped me an additional dollar bc she said that I did a great job in helping their dog 😭🥰 (Mom already covered the cost and then some) Moral of the story is this happens and we can help.
