Scout is living his best life. šŸ’š

Don’t worry, he’s not dead, just absolutely racked out, soaking up an afternoon sun nap in the pasture. Nothing makes our hearts happier than seeing rescue horses who once knew fear now feeling safe, loved, and relaxed enough to snooze flat out on a warm summer day.

This is what your support makes possible. If you’d like to help more horses like Scout find peace, please consider donating, sharing our page, or asking about volunteering. šŸŒžšŸ“šŸ’¤

Have you ever heard of the Prophet’s Thumbprint? ✨

It’s a small, natural dimple in the muscle of a horse’s neck or shoulder, totally harmless, just a quiet little indentation in the coat. Legend says these marks trace back to the Prophet Muhammad’s most loyal mares, who turned away from water in the desert to return to his call and were blessed with his thumbprint as a sign of their courage and devotion.

Whether you believe the old story or not, we like to think that every horse who carries this thumbprint is marked for something special: healing hearts, teaching trust, and writing new chapters of hope here at our barn.

Next time you visit, look a little closer… your new favorite horse might be carrying a bit of ancient magic in their neck. šŸ’«

✨ Star Update ✨

Our beautiful girl Star has been away at training with the Equine Welfare Society, and we couldn’t be more proud of the progress she’s making. What started as a feral, unsure young filly is slowly transforming into a more confident and trusting young lady.

During her time there, Star has been working on in-hand agility, groundwork, and even beginning her riding journey. Each step forward is a big one for her, and she’s truly come a long way. That said, she’s still building consistency and confidence, so her journey isn’t quite finished yet.

Good things take time, and we’re committed to giving Star exactly what she needs to succeed. We’ll continue to share updates as she progresses, and when she’s truly ready, she will be available for adoption—but for now, she’s still learning and growing.

Thank you for cheering her on every step of the way. šŸ’›

Today, we pause to remember.

Memorial Day is not just the start of summer or a long weekend. It is a day to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we have the freedoms we enjoy every single day.

As we gather with family and friends, let’s take a moment to reflect on those who never made it home. Speak their names, remember their stories, and hold space for the families who carry their loss.

Freedom is not free. It is earned and protected by the courage of many.

Today, we remember. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø

Some goodbyes are the kind you celebrate šŸ’™

Yesterday, our beautiful Kiah was officially adopted, and we could not be happier for her and her new owner.

Over the past five months, Kiah has been in training, and the transformation has been incredible to watch. She has grown into a confident, willing partner who truly thrives when she has a job and a person to connect with. Every ride, every small breakthrough, every moment of trust built along the way led her right to this point.

We always say that the right match matters, and with Kiah, we knew it would take patience. She needed someone who understood her, who would continue to build her confidence, and who would appreciate everything that makes her special. That person came along, and from the moment they connected, we knew this was it.

While it is never easy to say goodbye, this is exactly why we do what we do. Kiah’s journey doesn’t end here; it begins a new chapter filled with purpose, partnership, and love.

Congratulations to her new owner. Thank you for seeing her, choosing her, and giving her the future she deserves.

Run free, work hard, and enjoy every moment, sweet girl. We will always be cheering you on šŸ’«

Happy Birthday, Olivia!

Today we’re celebrating someone who gives so much of her time, care, and heart to the horses and donkeys at Freedom and Whiskey. Your kindness, dedication, and willingness to jump in wherever needed truly make a difference every single day.

We are so grateful to have you as part of this rescue family and hope your day is filled with as much joy as you bring to the barn.

There’s something special about watching the next generation fall in love with horses šŸ’›

We are so excited to share that Cash officially has a sponsor! Please join us in welcoming Nikki and her beautiful 17-month-old daughter to the Freedom & Whiskey family.

The moment we saw them together, we couldn’t help but smile. I think it’s safe to say… there’s a horse in that little girl’s future.

Cash could not have been paired more perfectly. He is steady, kind, patient, and wise in the way only an older gelding can be. He’s exactly the type of horse who gently introduces little hands to soft noses, warm breaths, and the quiet magic of the barn. For a mother wanting to share something meaningful with her daughter, he’s the perfect teacher.

Sponsorships like this matter more than most people realize. Our senior horses, especially sweet boys like Cash and One-Eyed W***y, may not be flashy or young, but they are the heart of this rescue. They require consistent feed, supplements, farrier care, dental work, and veterinary support. Having sponsors ensures they continue to receive the specialized care they deserve in their golden years.

Nikki, thank you for choosing Cash. Thank you for investing not only in his care, but in creating memories your daughter will grow up with. We are incredibly grateful.

If you’ve ever thought about sponsoring one of our horses, this is exactly what it supports — care, connection, and the beginning of something beautiful.

Welcome to the family, Nikki šŸ’›

Over the weekend, we received the sweetest gift. Amelia and her mother, Victoria Broehm, who sponsors our pony Scout, brought us the sweetest note and flowers.

No matter how rough the week was, it's a simple gesture like this that reminds us why we do this. Chance was a sweet horse. And I'm glad he touched so many lives.

Yesterday was hard. Today, the pasture and barn feel a little emptier.

Each morning, I look out the window to see the horses. Today, I didn’t see the golden hue of Chance’s coat.

Thank you to those who left messages and sent photos of your favorite memories with him. To our volunteers and to everyone who loved Chance, thank you for being part of his journey.

He was a character. We called him ā€œLittle Earsā€ because, for a Quarter Horse, he had the smallest ears. We could never keep fly masks on him. His ears just weren’t big enough to hold them in place, so they would twist sideways or slide off entirely. He had a habit of licking and would stick his tongue out at the most random moments. And he drove us crazy by picking up his feed bowl after he finished eating, tossing it into the air or carrying it off into the pasture for us to hunt down later.

He was patient, kind, and so good with children. He often served as one of our steady ponies for painting parties, standing quietly while little hands brushed color across his coat.

The realities of rescue are not always what people see online. It is not just live feeds from kill pens or urgent pleas to clear a lot. It is the day in and day out care. The horses who are no longer rideable. The ones managing Cushing’s. The one-eyed gelding. The 30-year-old who still believes he can rule the herd. It is giving them haven, peace of mind, and when the time comes, the dignity of a gentle goodbye.

Even when our hearts ache, the work continues. The bills still need to be paid. The remaining horses still need care.

There is also a financial cost to saying goodbye. The veterinary care, pickup, and aftercare services will significantly reduce our reserve funds. If you feel moved to help ease that burden, we would be deeply grateful. The link to donate is below.
