Nobody's Perfekt Dogs and Cats We rescue "imperfekt" dogs from local shelters in danger of being euthanized and find homes where imp Looking for a “perfect” dog? Sorry, we can’t help you.

We specialize in finding homes for dogs where “imperfection” is tolerated in exchange for a lifetime of love and devotion. Our foster dogs have been discarded by the people they once trusted, only to find themselves in a shelter with no other options. We want them to have a second chance to receive the love and care they deserve. Our Story:

Nobody’s Perfekt Dogs is not a shelter, but we only pull

dogs from the local community shelters. We do not take dogs directly from people wanting to dump their dogs or strays that people find. We consider ourselves a “rescue of last resort.” Shelters who call us about a dog in need, have exhausted all other rescue groups and options, leaving no choice but to consider euthanizing the dog. Many of our dogs are seniors, or have special medical needs. Some of our dogs are just too traumatized in the shelter to pass the temperament test for adoptability. They are fearful or shutdown. Simply taking them out of the shelter and putting them into a stable foster home often makes all the difference in the world. We adopt to people and families that are looking for more than just a pet. Our adopters are truly interested in saving a dog’s life by giving it a forever home. When people adopt from us, they are actually saving 2 dogs: the dog they adopted and the next shelter dog on the euthanasia list that we now have room to foster.

This is Dante. He is an 8 month old puppy. He came to the shelter already neutered and with a microchip. The microchip was traced back to a shelter in another city, but not registered. This other shelter didn't adopt the dog out. The microchip was probably part a community outreach program for free microchipping, but the owner never completed the registration.

As you can see from the video, Dante is a very playful, friendly pup that loves everybody. He gets along with other dogs and did great during his vet check. However, all of these great qualities aren't enough to keep him from being euthanized. The shelter won't put him up for adoption. He is "rescue only." No other rescue group is willing to save him, which is why we have been contacted. We can't save him unless someone comes forward to foster him.

* * * * If anyone is interested in knowing why he needs rescue and can't be adopted out by the shelter, feel free to send us a direct message. * * * *

He would do great in a foster home that has other playful friendly dogs to help drain some of his puppy energy.

Connie's 2-day hospitalization to do an IV flush out of the toxins that her diseased kidneys couldn't filter out was successful in that many of her lab results showed major improvements. She will always have kidney disease, but she is feeling better and more active. She will need to be given sub-Q fluids multiple times per week, that her foster home will do. They are a foster family that has much experience with treating kidney diseased dogs. They fostered Patrick, a puppy we rescued that was born with deformed kidneys. He lived 3 and a half years under the foster family's care before it was time to send him over the rainbow bridge. Connie won't last the long, but she will be loved for the weeks/months that she has left.

More on our shelter to hospice program: We knew that 2 of the 3 dogs we rescued over the memorial day weekend would likely be short term hospice dogs, hoping to give them as much love and care until it was their time.

We didn't have a lot of medical information from the shelter on Connie (a toy Pekingese mix, estimated by the shelter to be around 9 yrs old, but our vet thinks she is much older: 12+). Her symptoms, however (severe weight loss, lethargic, sleeps a lot), pointed to a likely culprit. We were able to get her into our vet this week to do blood work and x-rays. The x-rays showed a lot of arthritis. The bloodwork confirmed our worst fears - she is in kidney failure. She is being hospitalized for couple days at our vet's office with IV fluids to flush out her system, then her foster home will continue with sub-Q fluids daily at first then 2-3 times a week. She has proved to be a very picky eater, but miraculously, she likes the pate kidney diet . . . go figure. If it is food she likes, she has a good appetite. Who knows how much time she has left, but she will be loved until it is time to say goodbye.

Part of our mission is to not only rescue dogs to find them new homes. We will often take in dogs from shelters that have medical issues that will result in their deaths within weeks, months, occasionally a year or so. These dogs go into our hospice program. Our goal is to make their journey across the rainbow bridge start in a loving home that will care for them until it is time for them move on. We will be posting about a handful of these dogs in the next couple days.

Louie came to us from the Stockton Shelter three and a half years ago, estimated to be around 12 years old. He had a significant heart murmur (grade 4 out of 6). Then about a year and a half ago, his kidneys started failing. At the age of 15-16 years old, he crossed the rainbow bridge two days ago, loved and well cared for by his extraordinarily gracious foster family. He will be missed.

The 3rd (and last dog) that rescued, is a senior tiny toy Pekingese mix that we named "Connie." She is about 6.2 lbs (at the shelter, she weighed 7 lbs, not sure why the weight loss. She has a good appetite.) Her shelter story is below. We don't know anything about her backstory. She had previously had an eye removed, she was already spayed. Upon entering the shelter, she didn't have use of her back legs, but she was continent. The shelter eventually shaved her matted fur and it revealed just how underweight she is. She has turned out to be a sweet little gal, who is currently using her back legs. She did a little bit of lap guarding when one of the other dogs at the center approached while she was on the lap of a volunteer, but that behavior shouldn't surprise anyone familiar with this breed.

Here is what the shelter sent us:

I am reaching out as we have an a dog in our care in urgent need of rescue. Grogu is a one-eyed, 9 year old Pekingese mix that was brought to us as a stray that could not walk. During her stay her ability to use her back legs has increased some, but she is very lame in her back end. Grogu is a little grumpy, but with her adorable looks, she can get away with it. Due to her condition we have not tested her with other animals, but she enjoys pets from the friends she has made and makes friends rather quickly.
I have attached her medical history, we need a commitment for her by Wednesday 5/20 at 6pm.
Thank you,

The second dog we rescued (Timmy3) is a senior with an extensive laundry list of medical issues (blind from cataracts, some lumps hear and there, significant heart murmur, severe dental disease, just to name a few). His backstory is in the shelter's notes below. We don't know what actually happened to his previous owner that was in the hospital (maybe they died?). When he got to our adoption center, he just collapsed into a dog bed and didn't stir for the next 18 hours. We would check in to make sure he was still breathing. We fully expected that he would pass away in his sleep. The next day he was up and about a little bit - eating and drinking, somewhat. Then this morning he is galloping around the center happy as a clam, exploring, running into things since he is pretty blind, and has a fairly good appetite.

He is obviously going to be a hospice dog, but we will discuss with our vet what we can take care of healthwise and what we can't.

Rescue Memo 05/12/2026 - Timmy came to us after his owner was hospitalized, and he’s now in need of some extra care and stability. He has a grade 4/6 left systolic heart murmur and significant periodontal disease that will require dental treatment. Timmy also lives with arthritis, which affects his comfort and mobility, and his coat is heavily matted, so grooming will be an important part of helping him feel better. Even with these challenges, Timmy remains a gentle, patient dog who handles care and handling with a sweet, steady temperament. With medical support, grooming, and a calm environment, he has a real chance to regain comfort and quality of life. Matted fur coat. https://youtube.com/shorts/UQP3btmz8Zk?si=8LqWdqrxBX1kmgzL

We rescued 3 medical dogs over the weekend that had run out of time and were scheduled to be euthanized. The first one was Allie. You can read her shelter notes below. She was a little timid at first when she arrived at our adoption center, but it didn't take long for her true personality to come out. She is very playful (as an 8-month old puppy should be.) She is also very sweet, giving kisses to the folks that met her while she was here. She is in a foster home. Initially, we didn't really see any lameness in her legs, but after rigorous playing with the 3 dogs in her foster home, she started to limp, so she went on cage rest. We hope to get her into our vet sooner than later to figure out next steps.

Rescue Memo 05/14/2026 - ***URGENT!! Needs RESCUE by Wednesday 5/20/26 @ 5pm!!** Young Lady Alicent (A914152) is an 8 month old sable and white spayed Labrador/pointer mix whose early life has been anything but the royal upbringing she deserved. She entered the shelter frightened, defensive, and unsure of the intentions of the humans around her. But with time and the steady companionship of other dogs Alicent began to lower her guard. Watching her learn to trust has been like witnessing a young noble rediscover her place in the world. Alicent has been in our care since March, and just as her confidence began to bloom, she started to limp. Multiple veterinarians have now evaluated her, and concerns have been raised about her stifle (knee) as well as the possibility of mild hip dysplasia. She will need continued diagnostics to determine the full extent of her orthopedic needs and to chart the best course for her long term comfort and mobility. This brave young lady has already overcome so much, but the shelter is no castle, its noise, stress, and confinement are dimming her spark. Alicent is far too young, too bright, and too full of potential to have her future limited by circumstances beyond her control! She waits with exuberant hope for a rescue partner who can fly her away from the shelter, continue her medical journey, and give her the chance at a life filled with safety, healing, and love. Her story is only just beginning, and she deserves a champion worthy of her noble heart! Holy crap! We helped the Oakland Shelter send a dog to Miranda’s Rescue a few years ago. It is not cheap to send or surrender a dog to this rescue/sanctuary (we paid $500 to them in 2019 for an Oakland Shelter dog that was sent there. I thought that amount was 1/2 and someone else paid the other half, but I am not sure). We even contacted them a couple months ago about sending Cheyanne to this place. They didn’t ever respond to our email (thank god, but we still haven’t been able to find a new foster home for her . . .)

“On five of those dogs, he told me he had to put them down for various reasons,” Joe DeVries, director of Oakland Animal Services, said. “Four of those five were dogs he had previously told us were adopted. We have text messages saying thes…
