PAWSitive Animal Massage “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” -Anatole France

This girl completely stole my heart from day one, and with every session she and I become closer. This 3 legged beauty gives the world’s bestest hugs and her eyes always say thank you.

Before I left, I whispered to her, “hop in my bag, I think I can sneak you home with me…” 🤣 🤣 🤣

I am so blessed beyond measures to earn the trust and love from these beautiful souls. Working with animals and helping them live more comfortable lives has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had, alongside of being a mother. I am so grateful to be apart of so many beautiful people’s lives- thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be apart of their (and your) journeys.

If you’d like to try a session with your pet, check out my website for more information.

Does your pet have IVDD? I specialize in rehabilitation with this disease and would be honored to help your pet have a better quality of life.

Please remember, massage should only be used alongside veterinary guidance for dogs with IVDD. During an acute episode, suspected disc herniation, or new neurologic symptoms, massage and stretching may be unsafe until a veterinarian has assessed the dog. Sudden weakness, inability to walk, or loss of bladder control warrants an urgent veterinary visit.

Tight fascia in a dog (what we are working on here with Buddy) can limit flexibility, restrict movement, and cause discomfort or pain. It may lead to stiffness, reduced range of motion in joints, changes in gait, or reluctance to exercise. Over time, it can contribute to muscle imbalances and make the dog more prone to injury. Regular stretching, massage, or professional canine physical therapy can help relieve tight fascia.

Miss Maggie began coming in weekly and now we are seeing each-other every 2 weeks. In between our sessions, Maggie visits Splash for hydrotherapy.

It is such an honor to be apart of her rehabilitation journey!

How Massage Helps Weak Stifles

• Boosts Circulation: Massage delivers fresh blood and oxygen to knee and hip muscles and tissues, easing stiffness and aiding natural recovery.

• Relieves Compensatory Tension: Massage helps release tight muscles in the hips, glutes, and lower back, which are often overused by dogs with weak stifles due to ACL issues, luxating patella, or arthritis.

• Supports Muscle Engagement: Stretching and gentle resistance techniques stimulate muscle memory and build strength in the rear limbs.

• Enhances Joint Flexibility: Gentle movements keep the joint capsule and soft tissues flexible, preventing stiffness.

💕🐾🐾Meet Pepper!🐾🐾💕

Pepper underwent two TPLO surgeries, one year apart.
This is more common than we think, and it’s often a result of compensating prior to the first surgery and recovering from it. When a pet has a torn CCL (the ACL equivalent to us), they shift their weight from the injured stifle joint to the other. Consequently, the other stifle joint takes on more pressure, as do other muscles and joints, such as the neck and thoracic sling muscles. They are constantly trying to compensate for the injured knee/stifle.

Yesterday we talked about Kyphosis. Now let’s look into what happens when the spine does opposite of hunching; Swayback. Massage has proven to help with this condition; greatly improving their quality of life.

What Causes Swayback?

• Thoracic Sling & Muscle Weakness: Imbalance or weakness in muscles connecting the ribcage and shoulders to the spine.
• Degenerative Disc Disease: Loss of disc elasticity, causing vertebrae to sink.
• Genetics and Breed Predisposition: Long-backed breeds like Dachshunds and Corgis are at higher risk.
• Neurological or Spinal Injuries: Conditions like cauda equina compression or past trauma.
• Age and Arthritis: Senior dogs may experience muscle wasting and joint issues affecting posture.

Common Symptoms

• Visible Sagging: Dip or U-shape in the back between shoulders and pelvis.
• Reluctance to Move: Hesitance to run, jump, or climb stairs.
• Difficulty Getting Up: Struggling to rise from lying down.
• Pain Sensitivity: Flinching or vocalizing when the back is touched.
• Lameness or Weakness: Hind-leg weakness or abnormal gait if nerves are compressed.

Does your pet have a hunched back?

When you schedule your pet’s first session, I take the time to show you techniques you can continue to use at home. I point out all my findings and put together a comprehensive massage plan you can either continue at home or continue at the Spa. I encourage you to reach out if you have questions or need a video of demonstrations. We go over a lot of information in that first visit, so I am always happy to send videos in case you forget something.

Together we can greatly improve the quality of your pets’ lives.

Has your dog had a TPLO or is about to? Or is your pet recovering from stifle pain or irregular tracking? Massage can help tremendously.

But first, what is a TPLO?

TPLO is a common bone-cutting surgery for dogs with a torn knee ligament (the dog version of a human ACL tear).

Instead of repairing the torn ligament itself, the surgeon permanently changes the shape of the bone so the ligament is no longer needed.

🐕 How it works:

* The Problem: The torn ligament allows the knee bones to rub and slide painfully out of place.
* The Fix: The surgeon cuts and rotates the top of the shinbone to make it flat instead of sloped.
* The Plate: A metal plate and screws are attached to hold the bone stable while it heals.

This flattening stops the bones from sliding, eliminates pain, and lets active or large dogs run and play normally again after about 8 to 12 weeks of rest.

Massage is a great way to compliment your veterinarian’s recovery plan.
