We have wonderful news: Madrid is safe! After being just hours away from euthanasia at the shelter, we were able to pull this sweet 15-year-old boy to safety. While he is now warm, fed, and finally surrounded by the love he has been missing, his journey to health is just beginning.
The Story Behind the Rescue
Madrid was brought into the shelter as an over-the-counter "stray." At 15 years old and weighing only 22 pounds, he was facing a critical race against time. He was scheduled to be euthanized by August 23rd, and his condition was declining rapidly. We knew we couldn’t let his story end there.
His Medical Reality
Now that he is in our care, we have a clear picture of just how much this brave boy has been enduring. His medical file is extensive, and he requires urgent, specialized care:
* Mobility & Pain: He suffers from a stiff gait in all four limbs (more severe in the hind), making it difficult for him to walk. This is currently being investigated as either advanced arthritis or an untreated tick-borne disease.
* The Mass: He has a large, firm, non-ulcerated mass in his left perianal region that requires urgent surgical intervention.
* Heart & Dental: He has a Grade 4/6 heart murmur and severe periodontal disease with heavy dental calculus.
* Eyes: He is suffering from cataracts in both eyes and requires ongoing treatment for chronic dark wax discharge and irritation.
* General Health: He is underweight, has an unthrifty coat, and is dealing with chronic alopecia and hyperpigmentation in the perianal area.
Why We Need Your Help
Madrid is a fighter, but he cannot do this alone. We are now raising funds to cover the cost of his life-saving surgery to remove the perianal mass and his necessary dental procedures. Between his surgical costs, anesthesia, pain management, and specialized post-operative care, the expenses are significant.
Every donation, no matter the size, goes directly toward Madrid’s medical bills. He has fought so hard to survive, and now we want to give him the quality of life he truly deserves in his golden years.
