‘What is that smell?’
I’ve likely said it hundreds of times. When I was a young, adult dog owner with little knowledge about canine anatomy, predispositions and veterinary care, I just bathed the dog. I bathed the dog far too often. I spritzed and sprayed and shaved. I blamed myself. Then I got educated. I dove into it. My dog’s a**l glands weren’t draining properly and he had two rotten teeth. Both smelled hideous! My dog would lay in secretions. It can be less than obvious. The dog would lick their paws. He licked his kennel bars and then rubbed up against them. He ate well but his smelly saliva would be all over his mouth and even in his water.
The good news, a dental procedure and regular a**l gland expression solved both problems! My dog was no longer the stinky kid! 💃🏼
If your dog is the stinky kid, check for underlying causes. Your dog will appreciate it! 🐶❤️
If your dog comes home from daycare with an odor (likely more noticeable when you’ve been away from them for a bit) or their grooming freshness doesn’t last as long as you think it should, there is likely an underlying cause(s).
Brush those teeth!
Check those bottoms!
Look in those ears!
See your trusted veterinarian!
