Pennington County Humane Society will be hosting MN SNAP for two clinics this year.

The clinics will take place in June & September!

MN SNAP provides low-cost spay/neuter services for Minnesota families who don’t otherwise have access to affordable services for their pet. We intend to serve families that participate in a needs-based program, meet income guidelines, or are caregivers for feral/community cats.

Visit our booth at Animal Humane Society's Walk for Animals on Saturday, May 2! Volunteers will be on hand from 9am to 1pm to greet people and pets and to sell merchandise. PLUS...we have two special features: #1 one of our very own volunteers, Cindy Ojczyk, wrote the book "Mom Loves the Dogs More: A Memoir of Family Rescue." It is a hopeful story of family, resilience, and the healing power of rescue pets. She will be signing books and donating net profits to support our Leech Lake Legacy mission. And #2 Cindy is also bringing along a special photo booth for you and your pet. Make memories. Buy a book. Both make perfect gifts to celebrate your favorite moms and dog moms!

The Saturday crew is ready for wellness day 2. We have no walk-in appointments available today. The pet food is all gone already, and the size large Seresto collars are sold out and on back order (only size small remain on hand).

UPDATE 1:40PM. WE ARE NOW FULL FOR THE DAY AND CANNOT TAKE ANY MORE WALK-INS.

UPDATE: We've had a lot of walk-in this morning and have filled our schedule. We still have some availability for walk-in wellness (basic exams and vaccinations only) today Friday April 24, after lunchtime (after 1pm until we close at 5pm). You may experience a wait so please have patience. $20 co-pay per animal requested, but no one turned away for inability to pay.

We held an awesome wellness clinic in March, our first of the year! Our volunteers completed 93 wellness exams, placed and transported 95 animals, made some repairs, and continued to sort and organize donations and supplies. We're so happy to have made a sizable dent in our wellness waitlist! Many of our animals' stories have a sad start. In this case, Zoey the cat's owner went to a nursing home and could no longer care for Zoey. Zoey was surrendered to Pennington County Humane Society (PCHS). Leech Lake Legacy works in partnership with PCHS place and transport surrendered animals to partner shelters and resuces in the Twin Cities. In this case, Zoey was welcomed in by Carver Scott Humane Society, one of our many invaluable Twin Cities partner shelters and rescues. Over 2,300 cats and dogs made this journey with us and through us in 2025 alone! Zoey's story had a sweet twist in that he arrived at PCHS with a stuffed bear and a note asking that he be allowed to keep his bear. OF COURSE the stuffed bear stayed with Zoey (and has since been named "Joey").
