Microchips can help a lost pet be returned home safely!

Today is Check the Chip Day (August 15th)! 🐾 A day created to help remind pet owners to microchip their furry companions and keep that info up-to-date.
📌 Microchips are a powerful tool to help reunite lost pets with their families!

What are Microchips?
A microchip is a small, electronic chip, about the size of a grain of rice, that is placed under your pet’s skin. It contains a unique identification number that can be read by a scanner.

How do they work?
The chip is activated when a scanner is passed over your pet and it transmits the unique ID # to the scanner. The person scanning must then look up the ID # displayed on the scanner on the chip company’s website to obtain the owner’s contact information.

Will it really help?
Yes! Pets with microchips are 3 times more likely to be returned to their families.

Important reminder
- Microchips are not trackers.
- If your pet is lost, it cannot be used to locate them.
- Your pet must be found first and then scanned for a chip to get your contact information.

Extra tip
Be sure that your contact information is up to date in your microchip company’s system to help make sure you and your pet are reunited.
