🌈🐾 June is Pride Month AND Adopt a Shelter Cat Month — and honestly, we can’t think of a better pairing.

At Black Magic Animal Rescue, we believe love is love, family comes in many forms, and everyone deserves a safe place to land — including the cats who have been overlooked, misunderstood, abandoned, or told they were “too much.”

Some of our cats are shy. Some are spicy. Some are disabled, senior, feral-at-heart, dramatic, magical little weirdos. And we love them exactly as they are. 🖤

This month, we’re celebrating the beauty of being yourself — loudly, softly, proudly, or quietly from under a blanket — and we’re also shining a light on the shelter cats still waiting for someone to see them, choose them, and love them without conditions.

Adoption is more than bringing home a pet. It’s saying:

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Friday 😊

Today we are working on a few TNR kitties, confirming tomorrow's guest list for the event, and helping a few unexpected rescues.

That being said, we really, really, really need a few fosters that are comfortable with small animals and possibly potbelly pigs!

All of the animals need some TLC. Their owner is having some life struggles and her family is rehoming the whole homestead. We have a wishlist for supplies, but we mostly need friendly faces and homes for these guys to prepare for their forever homes. Please help us give these little guys a second chance.

Okay Black Magic Family!

I know a bunch of you are waiting for updates. I'll try to get to everyone now through the weekend. I've been trying to trap lots of mamas and babies that are struggling with the summer heat. We are not having pregnant ladies during these hot AZ summers. No way. Everyone I get my hands on is getting spayed.

This little baby was brought to us late last night. She is so sweet. Terrified, but sweet. She is super dehydrated and was covered in mud/pee/dirt. She was even licking the water from the towel 😞 She wouldn't survive much longer wandering the streets. Thank you so much to her finder for taking a chance on a little crying kitten that lost her way.

Today, we pause for Memorial Day.

This day can hold a lot of different feelings for different people. We may not always agree with every decision made by our government. We may have complicated feelings about war, leadership, politics, and the world we live in.

But we can still honor the people who never made it home.

We can still care deeply about our communities.
We can still show up for our neighbors.
We can still want better for our country, for the people in it, and for the animals and families who depend on us to keep choosing compassion.

At Black Magic Animal Rescue, community care is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s helping a stray cat, supporting a colony caretaker, feeding animals in need, or simply choosing kindness when things feel heavy, we believe small acts of care matter.

Today, we remember those who were lost.
We hold space for the families who grieve.
And we hope for a future built with more compassion, more accountability, and more care for one another.

Oh my goodness how this week has flown by!

If you saw us at the adoption event yesterday, thank you for stopping by! We always have so much fun meeting cat owners, colony caretakers, potential adopters, and people who just like to make furry friends.

Kitten season is in full swing! We have been nonstop trapping mamas and babies and caring for sick cats needing medical. We haven't even had time to take a breath 😅Today is going to be a little reset day. No running around like crazy. No appointments. Only checking traps, cleaning, and updating cat records. We have so many new faces that need their paper records uploaded into the computer.

We also have a few more things in the works that need some attention. We're always trying to plan fun ways to help promote the cats, keep the bills paid, and little stomachs full. We really couldn't do it without our wonderful supporters, volunteers, and community. Thank you thank you!

If you only do one thing for your pet this summer, get it a microchip.

I know what people are going to say. I've heard dozens of reasons why people don't like them. But it's the only true way you can 1000% identify your animal and prove it's yours.

If you have been watching the Miranda's Rescue stuff unfold, it's all the more reason to RUN out and get a microchip. If you haven't seen it, a California rescue was receiving payments for taking in e-list dogs from shelters and also for owner surrenders. Many dogs were found dead on the property from gunshot wounds, despite the rescue telling everyone they were adopted to new homes. Today alone I've seen dozens of people trying to find out if their dog was one of the ones in the mass grave.

Only the dogs with microchips can really be identified. So many pet parents will never know what happened to their animal. Please do everything you can to avoid going through this heartbreak. Microchip your pets.

My ex surrendered Malou to Miranda’s in March of 2019 for $500, because of temporary housing not allowing pets. I planned to readopt her myself as soon as I had pets-allowed housing. I called every 2-3weeks to check on her. She was extremely sweet. They claimed she would not be adoptable until she had some obedience training, so it would be better for me to take her back when able.

When I called to set up an appointment to readopt her, they very awkwardly claimed she had been adopted a few days prior. They wouldn’t provide any proof or paperwork that an adoption occurred.

She didn’t have a microchip, so she won’t be found with the rest in the mass grave. I’m hope maybe she truly was adopted and someone will recognize her.

We want to take a moment to be transparent about something many people may not realize.

Black Magic Animal Rescue currently only receives one small grant, and it is usually only $50–$100 every three months. While we are grateful for every bit of help, that amount does not come close to covering the daily cost of rescue.

Everything else — food, litter, medical care, emergency vet visits, medications, TNR supplies, cleaning supplies, kitten formula, and all the unexpected expenses that come with rescue — comes from donations or directly out of our own pockets.

Rescue work is constant. There is always another sick cat, another abandoned kitten, another colony needing help, another vet bill, another emergency. We do this because the animals need someone, but we truly cannot do it alone.

To everyone who donates, shares our posts, sends supplies, fosters, adopts, volunteers, or simply cheers us on: thank you. Your support is what keeps this rescue going. Every dollar, every bag of food, every shared post, and every kind word matters more than you know.

We are not funded by big grants or large organizations. We are kept alive by this community.

🚨 We need help paying down our vet balance 🚨

We received multiple emails and texts yesterday about an old vet balance from last year, and honestly, it was one more heavy thing added to an already overwhelming season.

This balance includes care for three very deserving cats:

🐾 One kitty who lost her eye and needed the socket cleaned and surgically closed.
🐾 One kitty who needed surgery after complications from her spay.
🐾 One kitty who had serious complications after being bitten by a tick.

These were not optional expenses. These were emergency, life-changing medical cases for cats who needed us to say yes.

We have been so busy with current medical cases, orphaned kittens, TNR, adoptions, and rescue updates that this older balance has been sitting in the background. Our last payment also was not credited to our account, so we are waiting to hear back about what happened there — but regardless, this balance still needs to be paid down.

And right now, donations are at an all-time low.

We know everyone is stretched thin. We know there are a million worthy causes asking for help. But if you are able to donate even $5, $10, or $20, it truly helps us keep moving forward and continue saying yes to the cats who need us most.

Medical rescue is expensive. Emergency care is expensive. Saving lives is expensive. But these cats are worth it.

Things we wish more people knew about animal rescue:

🐾 Friendly cats are often abandoned pets, not “strays.”
🐾 Kittens under 8 weeks require constant care.
🐾 Black cats are statistically overlooked in adoption.
🐾 Rescue workers cry more than people realize.
🐾 TNR drastically reduces suffering.
🐾 “Free kittens” often leads to unsafe outcomes.
🐾 One unfixed cat can create dozens of kittens in a short period of time.

And most importantly:
Rescues cannot survive without community support.

Sharing posts, donating supplies, fostering, volunteering, and adopting all genuinely help save lives.
