Meet Dagon! Dagon the Tornjak visited today for a collection with us, and made complete breed fans of the entire office! The Tornjak is currently an FSS (Foundation Stock Service) breed with the AKC, meaning it is acknowledged as a legitimate breed and can compete under the FSS status, but still has other AKC requirements to fulfill before full accreditation.
FIVE FUN FACTS about the breed:
1.) Tornjaks are an ancient guardian breed from the rugged mountains of Bosnia, Croatia, and Herzegovina (say that three times fast!). Documented as far back in historical records as the 1100’s, they protects sheep and cattle from predators like bears and wolves.
2.) Fluffy, loyal, and LARGE- weighing up to 110 lbs and standing 23-30” tall, Tornjaks have a double coat that’s weather resistant and beautifully soft-perfect for the deepest, coldest winter the region they hail from can dish out.
3.) Faced Extinction: in the 1970’s the breed was on the brink of disappearing completely! Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, the breed now is thriving and expanding, worldwide.
4.) Calm in the Home, but on Alert Outside: Tornjaks LOVE their families but are wary of strangers. Their steadfast devotion makes them poster children for exceptional guardian dogs with both two and four limbed charges.
5.) Giant Breed with a Long-Lived Lifespan: despite their size, Tornjak households enjoy a 12-14 year average lifespan with their breed.

Our hearts are breaking tonight. We learned earlier of the passing of Loretta Pyeatt. She played a big role in supporting Infinity Canine from the beginning. She was a strong person and we were lucky to call her a friend. Rest in peace Loretta your pain has ended and we know Johnny met you at the bridge with a ball. Sending prayers and hugs to Allen Pyeatt and her family. 💔😢🙏🏻
