Harper is adjusting well to her routine of staying calm despite wanting to play with every dog that crosses her path! 🐕 It is imperative that Harper stay as calm as possible so the dying heartworms don’t cause a pulmonary thromboembolism which could be fatal. Luckily, Harper spends many of her days at Mayfair where she receives love and attention by the whole team. After a busy day at the office, she takes the scenic ride home where dinner and belly rubs are waiting. 🐾

August heat is no joke.

This is often the hottest stretch of the year, and pets can overheat fast. Keep it simple:

- Fresh water and shade, always.
- Walk early morning or evening.
- Watch flat-faced breeds and seniors closely.
- Never leave pets in a parked car.

Signs of heatstroke include heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting. Call us right away if you see them. This is an emergency!

More often than not, the most common reason for a client to decline heartworm prevention is because they claim that their pet (dog or cat - yes, cats can also get heartworms!) does not go outside. How is this possible? A short potty walk, running out to meet their owner, a screen porch, or even an open door can lead to exposure to a mosquito. If you’ve spent any time in North Carolina, you know the mosquito population is thriving. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitos and it only takes one bite to infect an unprotected host. On this map, you can see that NC has a high incidence rate of heartworm disease. It is important to keep your pets protected year round as mosquitos in NC unfortunately do not migrate for the winter. Please call us today at 919-467-6146 if you have any questions or if you would like to discuss heartworm prevention for your furry friend or visit the American Heartworm Society Website listed in our bio!
