He can’t wait to “exa” (exercise) every morning for breakfast, sometimes lunch and dinner, too! He looks at me funny if I just put his food down in front of him and not go do “exa”! , ,

My little "lap dog" has been swimming miles again all summer. I highly recommend swimming as part of a fitness plan for your dogs. Stewie is almost 14 years old and has arthritis. After he swims his 12 minutes, he is much more mobile and less painful for the rest of the day. He runs around like a puppy and chases his sister. This is a simple 9'x6' above ground pool. It cost $150 and this is the third years we've put it up for him. It's a no-brainer! All you need is a level surface. We use bromine, clean it once a week and have a simple cover for it. Dogs over ~ $35lbs can tread water chasing toys and treats - or get a bigger pool!🐠🐶

Stewie thinks his dad is the bomb for 3D-printing him a pivoting platform! It is perfect, even for dogs up to about 35-40 lbs.😍🐶 Dad says he would make more if anyone is interested! The top is yoga mat glued to it. It's very sturdy, non-slip, not too heavy and won't tip. 23 cm diameter at the top, 24 cm at the bottom and 5.5 cm thick. PM if interested! Share with your fitness buddies!

Turn on the sound for this one! We love tricks at Core Fit Canine! Check out Rosi's new one! When Rosi was young, she encountered Elvis-teddy and wanted nothing to do with him when he started singing as she picked him up. It was nothing she had ever heard before!

So I decided to help their relationship. I made Elvis more attractive by pairing him with cookies for Rosi, especially whenever he started singing.

Then I got curious, the trick training lover in me, and wondered if she could learn to pick Elvis out of a crowd. It only took a few sessions to put the two behaviors together -- picking out the toy and then squeezing/nosing him to make him sing.

Now here's my question for you: clearly, she can't see him as she is picking him out of the basket. Do you think he has his own unique scent? Or does she distinguish him by texture? Maybe she feels the hard battery case that is inside him?

Elvis's voice has gotten a little rough with age, so hopefully you can recognize the song. At least those of my age and older should know it! LOL. Oh let me be... your teddy bear! ❤️ Feel free to share this video with your dog friends and subscribe to our Youtube Channel! Check out all of our services at www.corefitcanine.com

Rosi's brother paid us a visit and we played in the gym. He's never seen fitness equipment before, so Mom was very proud of him performing a perfect sit to stand exercise!

Want to teach your dog to “Back Up”? Here’s an easy, pressure-free way to shape the behavior! My favorite way of teaching is by letting the dog figure it out on their own!🙌🥳💡🐾

For this exercise, I used an x-pen next to my couch, but you can also use a wall or simply position an x-pen to create a narrow V-shaped space for your dog to walk into.

Here’s how it works:
⭐ Toss a treat at the narrow end and let your dog go get it.
⭐ As your dog looks up toward you after eating the treat, their weight naturally shifts back and because the space is narrow, they can't easily turn around, so they will likely take a few steps back.
⭐ The moment your dog backs up, toss a treat for your dog (can use clicker as well!)
⭐ Repeat tossing a treat at the front, then wait for the backup behavior and reward.
⭐ Wait a couple of seconds before rewarding to encourage a few more steps backward. The light bulb moment!💡
⭐ Then add your verbal cue “Back up!” and a hand motion.

That's it! Once your dog is consistently backing up, gradually start opening up the narrow end of the V so they learn to perform the behavior without the physical boundaries.🐶

I actually taught Stewie to back up using a completely different technique a long time ago. He had never seen this setup before, so he had to put his thinking cap on for a bit. But once I started giving him the verbal cue he already knew (“Back up!”), there was no stopping him!❤️

At the Canine Fitness Summit two weeks ago I attended a lecture by Woojin Beyon from Korea about little dog fitness. I was inspired and wanted to try this exercise with Stewie. The initial phase of shaping going into the "channels" was harder than I thought as it required good angles of approach and I probably should have started out by really leaving the side "walls" WIDE open. But the little man's light bulb went off and we had fun with this very beneficial movement. He tends to have tight latissimi dorsi muscles and this helps stretch and strengthen them. The key is to keep a slow and steady pace for maximum effect. It is a generally great core exercise and strengthens the limb abductors and adductors and hip and shoulder stabilizers. Stewie decided to take it to the next level and add a big circle around the whole setup alternating with an inner circle. I just love that little old man 🐶😍
