Most of you know our veterinary assistant, Kristi. She adopted Libby as a puppy from Animal Control shortly after she was born. Despite Libby's fortune in finding a loving forever home, she developed juvenile cataracts which have rendered her blind. Cataract surgery will restore this sweet girl's vision, but this specialized surgery will need to be performed by an ophthalmologist. Homestead Helping Hounds will be funding the surgery, but we need donations to help get her there. If you're interested in donating, click the link below. We need approximately $3000 for the procedure. Any funds raised above the cost will go to help other pets in need. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you for your support!

At Homestead Helping Hounds, we know change begins when we work together with our community to improve the lives of our canine companions. Every act of kindness, every dollar, and every moment of your time brings us closer to achieving our mission. Together, we can create a brighter, more compassion...

How do you know if your pet has dental disease? Bad breath, tartar, red or swollen gums, loose teeth, excessive drooling, and lumps are major red flags. Dental disease is also painful, and sometimes we can see pawing or rubbing at the mouth, decreased appetite, and not wanting to be petted on or around the head. Unfortunately, when we see these signs, there's often teeth that are diseased and have lost their bony connections to the jaw, necessitating extractions. Regular dental cleanings can reduce the risk of this happening.

We're offering 10% off routine dental cleanings, including dental x-rays for the month of February. Give us a call to get book an appointment.

It's officially Veterinary National Dental Month! Did you know that over 80% of dogs and 70% of cats will develop dental disease by the age of three? It's not hard to imagine, considering they never brush their teeth! Dental disease leads to bacteria in the mouth entering the bloodstream and traveling to the heart, kidneys, and liver, causing severe disease. That's why is's important to have the teeth cleaned regularly, and evaluate below the gum line with dental radiographs and probing to find problems before they spread to other areas of the body.

We're currently offering 10% off dental cleanings for the month of February. Give us a call to claim your spot on the schedule.

What's puppy class all about anyway?

Puppy class is a valuable tool for every puppy and owner, no matter the owners experience with dogs. The primary goal of puppy class is socialization, not obedience. Puppies will practice basic skills while learning to ignore distractions and focus on their owners.

Class topics will include:

1) Crate training and potty training
2) Handling and husbandry
3) The importance of proprioception - obstacles and surfaces with varying textures and movement
4) Simple obedience behaviors and how to use them to help with management at home
5) Puppy biting and chewing
6) Introduction to lose leash walking
7) Desensitization to common objects and obstacles.
And much more! Class discussion can vary based on everyone's needs. This is a slightly mixed ages class allowing puppies up to 5 months old.
