We are on a canine quarantine until further notice, at least May 19. Due to the recent storm related nasty water damage...

We are on a canine quarantine until further notice, at least May 19. Due to the recent storm related nasty water damage, and out of an abundance of caution, we cannot intake or release any dogs. The dogs were exposed to a plethora of bacterial and viral elements and we are working close with our vet to monitor conditions and treat as necessary. Please understand that we have protocols to follow and this is just us, following protocol and precautions.

Many thanks to Sheila Brewer Keane and her husband Luke for their donation to the animals today and many other people who donated so far.

We picked up some meds at the vet today and are closely monitoring our young puppies and vulnerable animals who have compromised immune systems for any change or symptoms of bacterial infections.

We have had several Venmo and paypal donations and a visit from Rebecca Poche today. We are so grateful to everyone

Sadly, we do not feel we are able to open to the public the rest of the week. The task at hand is pretty overwhelming but bleach and lemon Lysol is our newest best friend

Many thanks to Dr. Will Embry for helping us with monitoring the animals and we hope to open regular hours on Monday.

This has been hard on staff who are working very hard on cleaning, sanitizing, keeping regular animal care going and making sure we don’t miss anything.

Thank you from the bottom of heart for your continued understanding and support. Mother Nature at least listened to our calm down requests.

We will keep you updated on progress. It most certainly takes a village, and as always ours is the best!

This about sums up our day! Unfortunately we will be closed to the public Wednesday and maybe Thursday as Mother Nature decided to let her lightning take out our power for a long, long time, causing many chain reactions. We lost a few small electronic things, but the biggest item was the chain reaction. No power, no grinder pump. When that happens nasty water backs up through every drain.

As a direct result of temperatures and due to no power, we lost our vaccines and some meds. We have some extensive water damage to the cat room on items that were in the floor, like their cubicles and other things. We lost some laundry detergent and a few other items

For a period of time we evacuated the puppies and vulnerable animals outside into temp kennels until we could sanitize. Thankfully the animals seem okay, but we have consulted with Dr. Will and will be picking up some proactive meds for the zillion puppies we have and a few vulnerable dogs because of the nastiness of the water back flow.

Thank you to CPD, especially Chief Hudgens and Jeremy Darnell. Jeff Hugens with Ameren, you are always our hero! We will get back open as soon as possible.

What can you do?

We could use:

Lemon Lysol cleaner
Bleach
Dry Purina Dog and Puppy
Clumpable cat litter
Donations to replace meds and vaccines

There are probably other things, but that is our immediate need

As always we appreciate our community and will keep everyone in the loop. While we are closed to the public, you can drop donations at the shelter.

We also ask that if you know Mother Nature, please ask her to simmer down.
