Call them what you will stock horse, cow horse, ranch horse, whatever.

In my opinion there is no better horse. What they have to perform in and endure is sometimes cruel.

Yet they do their job. No pay, no audiences, and no fame. They just keep grinding it out.

I don’t know if horses are capable of loving but I sure do love my horses!

Trivia Tue: would you get her bred or keep riding her?

She’s turning 7, has proved herself, has the build, bone, personality, bloodlines.

I have younger ones to focus on. Trying to decide.

Thanks

It’s funny how things work out. You may say God has a sense of humor.

This wasn’t the horse I wanted to buy as a yearling but the other one got sold . I don’t like the color (not big on colors just not my favorite color). Was gonna start him and sell him. He was a pain in the butt growing up, not bad but full of himself, the stuff that makes you scratch your head.

Fast forward 3 years and you may say he’s grown on me. He’s becoming my go to horse. He can still be a pain in the butt. You might say he has personality. He and I are becoming quite the team. He hasn’t balked at much and goes and does where and what is asked. And still has enough in the tank to show his personality.

We affectionately call him, Popeye!

As you know I’ve been helping with calving this spring.

I really wasn’t looking for a “job” for me but rather a job for my horses.

I needed to expose them to more challenges. You can only do so much in an arena, on trail rides, even in competitions where things are pretty much controlled.

I wanted to expose them to things that would challenge them and not for a few minutes or an hr. But for miles and hrs of real work.

It has been better than I thought. My horses are now at the next level of training.

I’m blessed to have this opportunity to prove my horses, I thank God everyday for giving me the health and ability to do this!

Unless you’re cleaning your pens everyday it’s hard to believe how much manure a horse can produce.

This is from 6 horses in a 24 hr period on limited feed😳.

It’s not hard to see where manure can be a big health issue as well as a foot issue.

If you have a horse dry lotted I’d suggest cleaning pen everyday. I know it isn’t possible for some but if it is for you I would highly recommend it!

I think your horse, vet and farrier would be happy as well.

I’ve told all my kids “appreciate this old barn, because if I wasn’t making a living in it, it wouldn’t be here”.

I’m not riding a lot of outside horses anymore. But oh the memories this old barn has stored inside its walls.

I can’t count how many horses I’ve rode or started here. There’s been a bunch.

There have been joys as well as sorrows inside these walls. But I’m grateful the good Lord saw me through it all.

Ever since I was a small child I dreamed of making a living with horses and having my own place.

It took me a lifetime but it all came to be. The activity is less now but there still plenty of memories to be made yet.

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for this old barn being a part of the journey!

We started the day a little dirty. We ended the day even dirtier plus very sweaty.

Pretty proud of our horses. Bringing in pairs in wet muddy conditions isn’t fun and can make the task exhausting.

But everyone of the horse never gave up and never balked at whatever obstacle was in front of them.

Granted the youngsters did some youngster stuff but worked their tails off. Now for some much needed rest for a few days, then back at it!
