One of the hardest things to do is truly make a horse at home.
Almost every horse is good when they’re in their comfort zone. They know the arena, the surroundings are familiar, and there’s very little asking for their attention.
The real test comes when you haul them somewhere new. Different sights. Different sounds. Other horses. Announcers. Banners. Chaos.
That’s what we’re training for.
I’m not just teaching a horse to lope circles or run barrels. I’m teaching them to keep their mind on me no matter where we are. To stay soft, stay broke, place their feet where I ask, and keep thinking instead of reacting.
A well trained horse isn’t one that’s only good at home. A well trained horse is one that can leave home, walk into a brand-new environment, and still be the same willing partner.
Anyone can train the pattern.
The goal is to train the mind.
