National Adopt-a-Cat Month celebrates one of the most rewarding decisions a household can make. Shelters across Texas are full of cats who have a lot of love to give and need the right home to settle into.
If you brought one home this spring, or you are thinking about adopting this June, the first six weeks are everything. New cats need quiet, consistency, and patience as they figure out the space. They also need to eat, drink, use the litter box, and ideally interact with their humans on a steady rhythm. That can be hard when your work schedule kicks back in.
Recurring drop-in visits during the adjustment window do a lot of the quiet work for you. A familiar sitter, predictable timing, fresh water, gentle company, and detailed observation notes. Your new cat builds trust faster, and you come home to a household that is settling instead of struggling.
DM ADOPT and Nancy will help you build a schedule around your new cat's first weeks.

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, and the kit you wish you had built is the kit you build now. Texas weather is unpredictable. Storms knock out power. Heat events disrupt routines. Hurricane evacuations in the Gulf occasionally push impact this far inland. The pets who weather these moments well are the ones whose families prepared in advance.
Most emergency kit guides online are written for general use. This one is built around what actually matters for pet families in Dallas, Austin, Frisco, and Plano. Real items. Real placement. Real shelf life. Build it on a weekend afternoon and you will not need to think about it again until next June.
When your sitter knows where the kit is, where medications live, and how to reach your vet, the response time in an emergency drops significantly. That is part of what we capture during the Meet and Greet, and it is one of the quiet benefits of having recurring care in place.
Save this checklist and DM PREP if you want help reviewing what should be in your kit.

Pet dads carry the early walks, the late refills, the vet trips, and the patience to teach a stubborn cat to take a pill. They sit on the floor with senior dogs who cannot make the couch anymore. They are first to notice when something is off.
Father's Day weekend is June 19 through 21. If a pet dad in your life needs a real break, planning a weekend away while we hold down the home front is the kind of gift that lands. Same sitter your pet knows. Photo updates that actually arrive. No vet boarding stress.
Tag a pet dad in your life, and DM DAD'S DAY to plan the weekend.

Juneteenth lands on a Friday this year, which makes it a three-day weekend for many Texas families. Combined with Father's Day on Sunday, June 19 through 21 is a heavy travel window. Lake houses, family visits, short getaways. Pet care availability fills quickly.
Existing clients have priority scheduling. New clients can still complete a Meet and Greet this week if we hear from you early. Either way, the sooner Nancy has the dates, the more options we have on sitter matching.
Comment your dates and Nancy will check sitter availability for the weekend.

Cat owners spend a lot of time wondering if their cat actually likes them. The answer is usually yes, but cats express affection in ways that are easy to miss if you are looking for dog signals.
Slow blinks, gift-giving, scent sharing, trills, and trust-based belly exposure are all signs that your cat sees you as their person. These behaviors take time to develop, especially with newly adopted cats or rescues with rough histories. If you are seeing them, you have earned them.
For families with new sitters in the mix, these are also the signals to watch for during the first few weeks of recurring visits. A cat who slow-blinks at our sitter has decided the visit is safe. A cat who shows up to greet them is settled. Nancy logs these behavioral moments in the profile so every sitter on rotation knows how your cat communicates trust.
Save this for the next time you wonder if your cat actually likes you, and tag a cat parent who needs the reminder.

Texas summer demands a different pet care schedule than spring. The walking windows shrink. Water needs to be refilled more often. Indoor cats are vulnerable in ways most pet parents underestimate. Senior pets, flat-faced breeds, and dark-coated dogs are at the highest risk.
Our summer protocol shifts everything we do. Dog walks happen in the early morning and evening windows when pavement is safe. Cat drop-ins prioritize fresh water, AC checks, and behavioral observation for early heat stress signs. Every sitter knows the back-of-hand pavement test, the warning signs of overheating, and what to do if a pet shows them.
This guide works whether you are a current client or you are just trying to keep your pet safe through July and August. Save it, share it, and use it to plan your own outdoor time with your pets this summer.
Save this guide and tag a Dallas or Austin pet parent who needs it before the next heat wave.

The difference between a one-off walk and a recurring walk is the same as the difference between renting and living somewhere. Recurring walks let your dog settle into a rhythm. They know when the sitter is coming. They anticipate the release. Their whole day is structured around it.

Cat families, this applies to you differently. Most cats do not need walks, but they do benefit from recurring drop-in visits during long workdays. The same principle of consistency applies. Consistent care equals a calmer pet.

Comment WALKS if your dog spends six-plus hours alone during the day.

Senior cats and senior dogs often share the same daily reality: medication at set times, consistent routines, and less tolerance for change. If your work schedule means you are missing the window on either end, recurring care is worth considering.

Our medication visits follow your written instructions exactly. Timing, dose, and method are documented with a photo after each administration. Nancy reviews the notes and flags anything unusual. You get to focus on your day knowing the care is handled.

This works the same way for cats as it does for dogs. The difference is pace and approach, and that is what sitter matching is for.

DM us to get your pet medication plan set up with a sitter who can be consistent.

About half of our clients are cat families. The other half are dog families. A lot of our clients are both. We structure visits accordingly and our sitters handle all pets with the same level of care.

A visit to a multi-pet home is structured to respect both animals. Feed the cat first, walk the dog after, document separately, leave the home calm. If you have been worried about finding a sitter who can truly handle both, this is exactly how we’re built to help.

Your cat is shedding just as much as your dog right now. Indoor cats respond to daylight changes, and May is when winter coats come off in earnest. A few minutes of gentle brushing during a sitter visit removes loose undercoat, reduces hairballs, and keeps your home cleaner.

Our sitters offer light brushing for cats and dogs as part of recurring visits. It is not grooming, it is comfort care. Nancy can note your pet’s preferred brush and pressure in the profile so every sitter approaches it the same way.

Save this if shedding is taking over your home, and ask us about brushing add-ons.
