Happy Memorial Day🇺🇸

Today we remember and honor those who gave everything for our freedom.

Our office is closed today in observance of Memorial Day and will reopen tomorrow for normal business hours.

We hope everyone has a safe day with family, friends, and the pets who make life even better!

I just finished making 51 peanut butter treats.

The Haters will say it’s a waste of a doctor’s time—that this is something an assistant could do. I disagree.

Since May 1, 2022, we’ve served nearly 4,800 treats to our patients, and I’ve personally made over 70% of them.

When new clients ask how they’re made, I just smile and say, “They’re made with love.”

If I didn’t love what I do—and the patients I serve—I wouldn’t take the time to make them myself. Every batch reminds me of the pets I’ve helped, and I’m grateful God gave me the skill and wisdom to do this work.

The real question isn’t, “Why is he wasting his time on this?”
It’s, “How long will he keep doing it?”

God willing, I’ll make it to 10,000.

An international wet lab where veterinarians come to teach, learn, and refine advanced pain management techniques.…..

This is a hands-on wet lab where veterinarians from around the world teach and learn joint injections and local/regional blocks.

We use cadaver dogs for this training—so veterinarians can practice identifying landmarks and performing techniques under direct instruction.

This is how we improve pain management in real patients.

𝗡𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱.....

We’re closing early today—Dr. Stramel is headed to Dallas to speak at the Pain Management Forum 2026.

He is speaking on a topic that’s widely misunderstood in veterinary medicine.

Acetaminophen – No Cats Allowed: Dispelling the myths on the utilization of acetaminophen for pain relief in both the canine and equine species.

He’s not just speaking—he’s also responsible for the joint injection wet lab and continues to generously donate his time to advancing veterinary pain management through IVAPM.

We’ll be back to normal hours Tuesday April 21st.

I was working on a presentation and asked ChatGPT for help making a diagram....

ChatGPT said: “Sure, I can help with that veterinary diagram!”

We said: “Great, show us proper NMES electrode placement for the left brachial plexus in a dog.”

And ChatGPT delivered this masterpiece…

•“NUMES” electrodes (new trendy acronym, apparently)
•Two blue suitcases strapped to the dog
•A random red dot labeled “Pap 1”
•The dog looking mildly concerned in the background

Take home message: We still have a long ways to go with AI..... 😂

And you probably shouldn't use it (yet) to diagnose or treat your own dog.

Happy Monday!

Good news for our horse and dog parents looking for joint support!

There is solid published research on 4CYTE (powered by its patented Epiitalis® ingredient).

For dogs with osteoarthritis:

• A 2020 University of Melbourne pilot study (published in the Australian Veterinary Journal) found 93.5% of dogs showed improved quality of life and 74% had better mobility after 28 days — even many already on other OA treatments.

• A 2021 randomized trial showed 4CYTE was non-inferior to the NSAID carprofen for reducing pain and improving mobility.

For horses:

Studies (including work by Dr. Wayne McIlwraith) show it helps reduce inflammation markers, lameness, and even some radiographic signs of joint damage — with improvements sometimes seen in as little as 1–2 weeks.

It’s one of the better-researched joint supplements out there.

We keep 4CYTE in stock for both horses and dogs — let us know if you’d like to try it.

Chewy is buying Modern Animal.

Subscriptions. Apps. “Convenience.”

We’re not a subscription.
We’re not corporate-owned.
We’re not an app.

This is real veterinary medicine.

Actually paying attention. Thinking through the case in front of us—not running a protocol. No quotas. Not based on “production.”

No assembly line medicine.

Just experience, judgment, and doing what’s right for the dog on the table.

And if you still want independent clinics, small businesses, and people who actually know your pet—support them.

Because once they’re gone… they’re not coming back.
