These are easy mistakes to make and I've seen it repeatedly during consultations. Take the time to do a correct introduction to increase the chances of the cats developing a loving bond. If you don't have the time to do a careful, positive, and gradual introduction then it isn't the right time to adopt another cat.

Take time to train your cat using gentle techniques. It's worth the time to help your cat feel more comfortable with being handled, going in and out of a carrier, and traveling. They may never be your cat's absolute favorite things to do, but if you can reduce the stress it will make these necessary aspects of life more tolerable.

Keep the right attitude when training your cat. Remember, it isn't about punishing for unwanted behavior, but rather, it's about understanding WHY a behavior is being displayed so you can create a better option. The goal in training is to have a better relationship with your cat. Never use fear or punishment. Be a kind and gentle teacher.
