Boy am I grateful for the rain today…
A clear marker that the seasons are changing.
The daylight hours are waning. Which in other words means nighttime is winning and the days/nights are finally starting to cool.
The crops are changing as well.
When I first started the farm, this time of year really gave me a lot of anxiety. Rather than embracing the natural change of rhythm, I felt some need to try and control it.
I wanted to keep summer going. I worshiped the Sun.
I still worship the Sun…but in the farming world, wintertime is synonymous with slower growing, shorter days, and inherently less income for the farm.
There will be inevitable rainy market days.
There will be storms that will keep us out of the fields for days at a time
…looking at you Super El Niño!
We’ll miss some planting dates.
And yet, it seems that the natural rhythm is the ultimate teacher.
Letting go of being consumed by the business aspect of what we’re accomplishing.
Prepping for inevitable reality.
Learning lessons the hard but honest way.
I’m ready to lock horns, Winter. But maybe let’s just hold hands this season??
I’ll keep taking notes….
