Independent pet stores just hit different. 🐾❤️

It’s not just about having somewhere to buy your pet’s food.

It’s walking into a store where someone actually knows the products on the shelves. Where you can ask questions. Where products are intentionally chosen. Where you might find brands, treats, foods, supplements, and other goodies you’d never discover walking through a big-box store.

And behind every independent pet store are real people who genuinely LOVE this industry and the animals we get to help every day.

When you shop independent, you’re supporting a small business, your local community, and people who are probably just as obsessed with your pets as you are. 😂

I’m officially terrible at posting on time 😂 but better late than never, right?

SuperZoo was absolutely AMAZING! 🐾✨ We basically spent the entire time running around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to see everything, talk to everyone, and somehow fit it all in. 😂

Mellow had the BEST time exploring, visiting so many of the brands we already know and love, and of course checking out some new ones along the way. 👀🐶

And yes… we definitely found some goodies that will be making their way into the store! 🤭 We’re keeping exactly what’s coming a secret for now until we get a little closer to everything actually arriving.

But just know… new products are coming, and we cannot WAIT to share them with you! 👀📦🐾

🚨 Is your pet food actually “WSAVA approved”?

You’ve probably heard certain pet-food brands referred to as “WSAVA approved,” but there’s an important distinction:

WSAVA does not approve pet foods or pet-food companies.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association provides evidence-based nutrition resources and guidelines, including questions that veterinarians and pet owners can use to evaluate pet-food manufacturers.

There is no WSAVA certification process, passing score, or official list of “WSAVA-approved” pet foods.

So when you hear that a company “meets WSAVA guidelines,” the important question becomes: Who evaluated that company’s answers, and what were those answers?

And because transparency matters, there’s another piece worth knowing:

WSAVA discloses industry support for its Nutrition Committee, including Purina Institute, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and Royal Canin. WSAVA states that its Nutrition Committee does not endorse, approve, recommend, or support specific products or companies.

That doesn’t automatically make the guidelines good or bad—but it IS information consumers should have when evaluating any nutritional recommendation.

🚨 It’s Official: We Will No Longer Be Carrying Farmina 🚨

After months of careful consideration, Pet Nutrition Center has officially made the decision to discontinue Farmina. Once our remaining inventory is gone, Farmina products will no longer be available on our shelves.

This decision was not made lightly.

Earlier this year, we began phasing Farmina out after concerns regarding the company’s lack of transparency surrounding ingredient changes following its transition to U.S. manufacturing.

As we continued evaluating the brand, additional concerns arose regarding ingredient sourcing from China and the lack of transparency surrounding those sourcing practices. Because of this, we no longer feel Farmina meets the standards we require for the brands we choose to carry.

At Pet Nutrition Center, every brand on our shelves is held to the same standards. We are committed to carrying companies that prioritize:

✔️ Transparent ingredient sourcing
✔️ Well-sourced, high-quality ingredients
✔️ Thoughtfully formulated diets
✔️ Honest communication with pet parents
✔️ Accountability and consistency
✔️ Earning our trust—not just a place on our shelves

These standards guide every product we bring into our store.

Our goal is never to create fear or shame anyone for what they feed their pets. Our responsibility is to carefully evaluate the brands we carry, share what we learn, and provide honest information so pet parents can make informed decisions.

We know this decision may not be the right one for everyone, but it is the right one for Pet Nutrition Center and the standards we have committed to upholding.
