A stray cat was found on Van Buren Road on October 20 around 8 p.m., running through the roadway in a dangerous game of Frogger!

💙 We are absolutely blown away by this incredible donation! 💙

Halfway Home Pet Rescue was honored to be selected as one of the receiving organizations, along with Central Aroostook Humane Society, for a very generous donation from the 3rd Annual Presque Isle Royalty’s Miss Harvest Moon Pageant Fundraiser.

Together, HHPR and CAHS received approximately $16,000 worth of food and supplies — roughly $8,000 worth for each organization. And when we say supplies, we mean A LOT of supplies! 🐾

Cat food, paper towels, bleach, dish soap, cleaning supplies and so much more and we are so appreciative of the generosity. This donation will make a tremendous difference for HHPR and the cats in our care. ❤️

Thank you to everyone involved in making this possible. We are incredibly grateful!

Just Another Day at Halfway Home Pet Rescue

One day. One heartbreaking loss. 💔 Two happy adoptions. ❤️ A successful inspection and two more kittens needing help.

Jay, our Adoption Center Manager arrived at HHPR around 7:30 in the morning. Ten minutes later, a man came to the door with a cat he had found after it was hit by a car on Belanger Road. The man had driven past the cat the day before, assuming it was dead.

In the morning, he went back to move it off the road so children wouldn’t have to see it—only to discover the cat was still alive. The cat was soaking wet, freezing cold and suffering from a severely broken jaw.

Jay immediately called Dr. Ennis, who told him to bring the cat in. The veterinary team took the cat straight into surgery to try to repair the jaw.
Sadly, despite everything they did, the cat did not survive. 💔

HHPR is sharing the story of the black and white cat found in the area of Bleanger Rd in hopes that someone may recognize the cat and that its family can have some closure. If you believe it may be your missing cat, please contact HHPR. The remains are available to the owner.

And the day wasn't over.

❤️ Tinker and Token were adopted!
While Jay was completing their adoption paperwork, the state arrived for HHPR’s annual inspection. Despite the chaotic morning, the inspection went great. The inspector was very pleased with the cleanliness and organization of the shelter and said the state is very pleased with the direction HHPR is heading.

Then, that evening, two more kittens arrived.

One has one of the worst infections Jay has seen so far. The kitten was cleaned up, the vet was contacted and medication was started. Thankfully, the kitten is stable and being closely monitored. 🐱

Just one day...

It’s exhausting. It’s heartbreaking. It’s rewarding. And somehow, Jay and the HHPR team keep showing up and doing it all over again. 🐾❤️

DOUBLE TROUBLE HAS ARRIVED! Meet Tinker & Token!

Tinker and Token are brother and sister, and they are practically twins! Token has just a little darker fur than Tinker, but otherwise, these two are almost identical. You may need to do a double take!

These two came to us from a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) site, and they have decided that the indoor life is definitely the life for them!

At about 5 months old, they are full of kitten energy, curiosity, and personality. They love to play, explore, and keep life interesting!

And they've already checked all the boxes:

✅ Spayed/neutered
✅ Vaccines and care up to date
✅ Ready to go to their forever home!

Penelope is all up to date and a total sweetheart who loves attention. She’s also a playful girl who would happily be someone’s special little sidekick. 🐾🖤 MEET SYLVESTER! 🖤🐾

If you’re looking for a cat with personality, pizzazz, and a permanent case of the bleps, Sylvester would like to report for duty.

Sylvester is a 2-year-old black-and-white domestic long-haired boy who is just about as much fun as they come! He loves to run around, show off, and occasionally forget to put his tongue back in his mouth. And let us tell you… the tongue-hanging-out thing is SO stinkin’ cute!

This boy is full of life and has one of the absolute BEST personalities in the rescue right now. He’s super easygoing, happy, playful, and just an all-around wonderful cat.

Sylvester has been neutered, vet checked, is up to date on his care, and is ready to pack his bags for his forever family.

Now all he needs is someone who appreciates a handsome fluffy guy with a goofy tongue and a whole lot of love to give.

🐾 TNR in action—and these little ones are proof of why it matters! 🐾

These sweet kittens were recently rescued from underneath a trailer at one of our Trap Neuter Return sites. We were able to get them to safety before winter! ❤️

The location has been producing quite a few kittens, so we’re working to get the population under control. Our goal is to have the site fully “buttoned up” by November.

At other TNR sites we’ve completed, we haven’t seen any new kittens since the work was finished. We’re hopeful we’ve reached everyone at this location too, but we’ll continue monitoring closely.

These little ones will be fully vetted and, hopefully, ready for their forever homes by November! 🏡🐱

TNR works—and it makes a lasting difference. ❤️
