And the celebrations continue!

Happy 3rd Birthday to our Service Dog Ambassador, Able! 🎉

Able attends community events , gives demonstrations ( he was just in California supporting Behesha in her IACP presentation), and helps us show others what a highly trained PTSD service dog can do. With his intelligence, gentle spirit, and larger-than-life personality, he is a wonderful ambassador for This Able Veteran—and he never misses an opportunity to make a new friend!

Please join us in wishing this very good boy a happy birthday filled with treats, belly rubs, and plenty of attention!

If you would like Able to come make a visit at your office, school, classroom, church group, or group of friends to learn more about how PTSD Service Dogs are helping veterans just reach out!

Yesterday, Behesha Doan Doan took the stage at the 2026 IACP Annual Educational Conference to present “Leading the Change in PTSD Service Dog Training: Enhancing Human Capacity Through Trauma-Informed Canine Partnership.”

Behesha was joined by Gabby Spangler and Service Dog Ambassador Able for this special occasion. We’re proud of them for representing This Able Veteran and helping advance a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to building successful partnerships between veterans and their service dogs.

In case you missed it.....Our Founder and Training Director - Behesha Doan just wrapped up her session Conference about learning to see dogs training through a new lens.

“Lend me your eyes, and I’ll change the way you see.”

What if we stopped focusing only on what a dog does and started understanding how that dog thinks, learns, and experiences the world?

That perspective is at the heart of the PTSD Service Dog Trainers Academy at This Able Veteran. From October 11–24, join Behesha and the training team in Carbondale IL - you will learn the foundational system behind developing confident, resilient service dogs and reliable partnerships that change lives.

Strong People Supporting a Strong Community

A huge THANK YOU the Barbell Barn in Mahomet for choosing This Able Veteran as one of the organizations to benefit from the Midwest Muscle event that was held on July 25!

It was an incredible day bringing together strength athletes, first responders, Veterans, families, and the Mahomet community — all for a great cause.

We are so grateful for the support of our Veterans and believing in our mission. And thank you to everyone who competed, volunteered, sponsored, and came out to support the event.

We’re honored to be part of such a strong and generous community! We want to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone behind Midwest Muscle in Mahomet!

Thank you Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship for selecting This Able Veteran as your Social Action Recipient for the month of August.
We were invited to share a little about our mission during their Sunday service.

Service Dog Ambassador Able also spent some quality time sharing what its like to be a service dog.

The church theme for August was WISDOM.

Wisdom can be knowing when to lead.
It can be knowing when to listen.
It can be having the courage to trust.
And sometimes, wisdom is simply recognizing that none of us is meant to walk through this life entirely alone.

Thank you CUF for welcoming This Able Veteran into your community and supporting the veterans we serve.

And thank you for helping make sure that when a veteran needs a partner to walk beside them, that partner can be there.

Best. Auction Prize. Ever.

At our Gala in February, a local family won a Puppy Party in our auction — and they saved it for the perfect time, when their grandchildren were in town! ❤️

They joined us at the Training Barn for an afternoon filled with puppy playtime, toys, lots of laughs, and plenty of cuddles.

We’re not sure who had more fun…the kids or the puppies! Judging by these photos, we’re calling it a tie.

Thank you to this wonderful family for supporting This Able Veteran and for spending such a fun day with us. Our puppies had the time of their lives!

Happy Birthday Moriah Payne!

We’re so thankful for the many years you’ve given to our team, our Veterans, and our service dogs. Now you’re taking on your newest role as a mom — and somehow you’re already back at it!

Your dedication, heart, and love for what you do mean so much to all of us.

And judging by this photo, the dogs are pretty thankful you’re here, too.

We’re so lucky to have you on our team. Happy Birthday! 🎂
