🎉🎂 Happy Birthday & Welcome, Dominique! 🎂🎉

Today is extra special because we're celebrating TWO exciting things! 🌞✨

First, please join us in giving a warm Alpine Animal Hospital welcome to Dominique, our new Front Desk Team Lead! 🐾💙

Dominique comes to us with a strong veterinary technician background and many years of experience in the veterinary industry. She has already made a wonderful impression with her warm personality, attention to detail, and genuine care for both our clients and patients. 🐶🐱

While we are sad to see our two front desk team members move on to new adventures, we are incredibly excited about this next chapter and can't wait for you all to get to know Dominique. The next time you're in the hospital, be sure to say hello! 👋😊

And as if starting a new adventure wasn't enough, today is also Dominique's birthday! 🎈🎁 We wish her a day filled with laughter, love, cake (lots of cake 🍰), and a year ahead full of exciting opportunities, growth, and memorable moments.

On this Summer Solstice—the longest day of the year ☀️🌻—it feels especially fitting to celebrate new beginnings, bright days ahead, and wonderful people joining our team.

Happy Birthday, Dominique, and welcome to the Alpine family! 🎉🐾❤️

Do y’all remember sweet little Bonita? 🐾💕

Back in February, we shared photos of an adorable Chihuahua mama during her pregnancy journey… and today we got the CUTEST reunion ever. 🥹✨

All three of Bonita’s puppies came back to see us for their final vaccinations and exams with their new pet parents, and it was so much fun seeing them all together again running, playing, wrestling, and loving on everyone. Even sweeter? Watching them give Bonita’s mama lots of kisses as a little “thank you” for helping them all find such wonderful homes. ❤️🐶

What makes this litter extra adorable is how different they all turned out! Since mama Bonita is a Chihuahua and dad was a Terrier, each puppy got their own unique combination of looks:

🐾 Ava looks just like her Chihuahua mama
🐾 Ozzie definitely got more of the Terrier side
🐾 And then there’s Bella… the giantess of the group 😂💪

Bella weighed in at EIGHT pounds today, while little Ava and Ozzie were both only FOUR pounds each. She is literally twice the size of her siblings and proudly living her best “big sister” life. Honestly, she looked like she could’ve belonged to an entirely different litter. 😅

Seeing all three puppies reunited today was such a heartwarming reminder of why we love what we do. From tiny newborn puppies to happy, healthy babies with amazing families of their own… it’s pretty special getting to be part of that journey. 🩺💛

We’re so happy all of these sweet pups found loving homes, and we can’t wait to continue watching them grow up. 🐕✨

Let’s talk honestly for a minute. 🩺🏼

The veterinary industry is changing fast. Between massive corporate buyouts, skyrocketing costs, and changing standards of care, independent practices like ours are facing some very real hurdles.

As a female-run, privately owned business right here in the Roaring Fork Valley, Alpine Animal Hospital faces these struggles every day. We don’t have a giant corporate safety net, and our team is sprinting from dawn till dusk to care for your pets.

But we are proud to be independent. Because we work in the trenches of our hospital every single day, we answer to you—not a corporate board of directors.

We’ve put together a very candid, behind-the-scenes look on our blog about how we’re navigating the modern vet world, our thoughts on what the true "gold standard" of care really means, and a small favor we have to ask our community regarding online reviews.

Happy 1st Birthday to sweet little Miss Waffles! 🎉🐾🎂

This adorable Golden Retriever recently celebrated turning one year old… and apparently decided the best way to celebrate was by helping herself to some cinnamon raisin bread. 😅🍞🍇

Unfortunately, raisins can be extremely dangerous for dogs. The tricky part is that we never know how severely a dog will react — some dogs may eat raisins and seem completely fine, while others can develop life-threatening kidney toxicity from even a very small amount.

Thankfully, Waffles’ owner caught it quickly and brought her in right away so we could safely make her vomit before her body had time to absorb the toxins. And let us tell you… Miss Waffles was STILL the sweetest, happiest little patient even after having to bring up her giant pile of cinnamon raisin bread. 😂❤️

We had a very serious discussion with Miss Waffles about making better snack choices in the future… but with a face that cute, we’re not entirely convinced she was listening. 😉✨

We’re so happy she’s doing well and hope her next visits are for much more fun reasons than questionable culinary adventures. Happy Birthday, Waffles! 🥳💛

Meet Frankie 🐾❤️

Frankie is a handsome 2½-year-old Boxer who recently came back to see us after experiencing another collapsing episode. His very first episode happened back in 2024, when he had a full cardiac workup with Dr. Radway, our ultrasonographer. At that time, his echocardiogram looked completely normal, and even his Holter monitor showed no abnormalities.

Fast forward two years later, and after another episode, we decided it was time to dig a little deeper. 🩺

The good news? Frankie’s repeat echocardiogram again looked completely normal. 🎉 But because this is now his second episode, we wanted more information about what his heart may be doing during his normal daily activities at home.

That’s where the Holter monitor comes in! 📟🐶

A Holter monitor is basically a portable ECG that continuously records the electrical activity of the heart over an extended period of time — usually 24 to 72 hours. It helps us look for abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) that may not show up during a short exam in the clinic. Holter monitors are especially helpful for pets experiencing fainting, collapsing episodes, weakness, or intermittent symptoms.

As you can see in these photos, Frankie was the BEST patient while Dr. Biggins placed his monitor. Honestly… with enough peanut butter involved, this guy will let you do just about anything. 😂🥜 The girls barely had to restrain him because he was far more interested in his snack than what we were doing.

His first monitor was only supposed to last 24 hours… but Frankie quickly decided he was over the whole fashion statement and removed it early. 😅 So this time, we upgraded him to a 72-hour monitor to hopefully capture even more information.

Once the monitor is returned, all of the data gets downloaded and reviewed so we can determine if Frankie’s heart rhythm is contributing to these episodes and whether any treatment or monitoring is needed moving forward.

For now, Frankie is soaking up all the peanut butter, attention, and love from his Alpine Animal Hospital team. ❤️🏔️

Today we are celebrating ONE whole year of Nayeli being part of the Alpine Animal Hospital family! 🎉🐾💕

Honestly, it’s hard to believe it’s only been a year because from the very beginning, Nayeli fit right in like she had always been here. ❤️

She is one of those rare people who is always 10 steps ahead, constantly making sure appointments are prepared, patients are cared for, and her teammates feel supported. She somehow always knows exactly what everyone needs before they even ask. Whether it’s helping keep the day running smoothly, stepping in when someone is overwhelmed, or simply making people laugh when they’re having a hard day, Nayeli is always there. 🩺✨

She has such a kind heart and would absolutely give someone the shirt off her back if they needed it. Her compassion for both our patients and our team does not go unnoticed, and we are so incredibly thankful for everything she brings to Alpine every single day. 💖

Nayeli is also an amazing advocate for our Spanish-speaking community. Being fluent in both Spanish and English allows her to help so many of our clients feel comfortable, understood, and cared for, and that gift is invaluable to all of us. 🌎🐶

And let’s not forget one of our favorite things about her… her contagious laugh. 😂 If Nayeli is laughing, chances are the entire clinic is laughing right along with her. She brings so much joy, positivity, and energy into our hospital, and we truly cannot imagine Alpine without her.

Thank you, Nayeli, for all of your hard work, your endless talent, your compassion, your humor, and for choosing to be part of our team. We love you so much and are so excited for many more years together! 🐾💛
