Everyone say hello to Toastie!n๐Ÿฅฐ This adorable little 6-month-old Pomeranian came to see us before jet-setting all the way to Madrid, Spain! โœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ

Toastie was recently adopted by his family, and before he could begin his European adventure, he needed to make sure he had all the right veterinary requirements, paperwork, and documentation for international travel. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ“‹

But honestlyโ€ฆ weโ€™re pretty sure Toastieโ€™s real reason for visiting was to steal our hearts. โค๏ธ

And since it happens to be National Beard Day, we simply HAD to celebrate this magnificent facial hair! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿง”๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ With all that glorious fluff around his neck, we're not entirely sure if Toastie has a beard, a mane, or just an exceptionally impressive floof situation. Either way, Dr. Gisleson was more than happy to bury her face in it. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅฐ

We already know Pomeranians are one of Dr. Gislesonโ€™s favorite breeds (right up there with Boxers ๐Ÿ˜‰), so Toastie never stood a chance of leaving without becoming part of the Alpine family!

โœˆ๏ธ Planning to travel internationally with your pet?
International pet travel can be complicated, and requirements vary significantly from one country to another. Depending on where you're going, preparation can take weeks or even months. That's why we strongly recommend working with a reputable pet travel service that specializes in international travel. They can help make sure all the necessary requirements, timing, health certificates, permits, and official paperwork are in order so you don't arrive at the airport only to discover that your pet doesn't have all it's "ducks" ๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ†๐Ÿฆ† in a row! ๐Ÿคฃ

And while we love helping your pets get ready for their adventures, international travel isn't always ideal for every pet. If you're only going away for a short trip, boarding or pet-sitting may be much less stressful. But if you're moving or planning an extended stay, we're happy to help you get started on the process!

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฅ A Day at Alpine! ๐Ÿฉบโœจ

We had the BEST visitors at Alpine Animal Hospital! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’™ The Blue Lake Summer Program brought a group of curious, enthusiastic kids to our hospital for a very special field tripโ€”and we had an absolute blast!

Dr. Gisleson gave the group a behind-the-scenes tour of the hospital, where they got to see some of the places where the magic happens. โœจ They checked out our exam rooms, treatment area, X-ray room, and even got a peek at where we take care of petsโ€™ dental needs. ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿฉป๐Ÿฅ

Of course, the questions came fast and furiousโ€”and we LOVE that! ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ Thereโ€™s something pretty special about watching kids get excited, ask questions, and discover all the different things that happen inside a veterinary hospital.

But the real fun began when we headed outside! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Every kiddo brought along their favorite stuffed animal, and Dr. Gisleson and Cheyenne, one of our amazing veterinary technicians, helped turn the kids into veterinarians for the morning! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ They practiced putting bandages on their very patient โ€œpatients,โ€ and there was plenty of teamwork, giggling, and serious veterinary business happening. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฉน๐Ÿป

And judging by the group photoโ€ฆ we may have some future veterinarians in the making! ๐Ÿ˜‚โค๏ธ

We were so excited to partner with Blue Lake Summer Program for this special outing. Experiences like this are about so much more than just taking a field trip. Theyโ€™re about giving kids the opportunity to explore, ask questions, discover new interests, and dream BIG. ๐ŸŒŸ

You never know what one morning, one new experience, or one person saying *โ€œHey, you might really love this!โ€ can inspire. ๐Ÿ’™

Thank you, Blue Lake, for spending the day with us! And a huge thank you to Dr. Gisleson and Cheyenne for sharing their time, knowledge, and love of veterinary medicine with these awesome kids. We had just as much fun as you didโ€”and our hospital may never look at stuffed animals quite the same way again! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿป๐Ÿฉน

๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’ฅ Meet Eddie, a handsome almost 4-year-old indoor/outdoor kitty who came to see us after his family noticed something was definitely not right.

Eddie had been hiding and wasn't interested in eating, which is always a big red flag for our feline friends. When his mom brought him inside, she discovered the reason he was feeling so miserable... a huge, round lump on the side of his face! ๐Ÿ˜ณ It was about the size of a small baseball and looked incredibly uncomfortable.

After examining Eddie, we discovered that his "lump" was actually a facial abscess. An abscess is a pocket of infection filled with purulent material (pus) that often develops after bacteria get trapped under the skinโ€”commonly from bite wounds or scratches, especially in outdoor cats. ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿพ

Because abscesses can be extremely painful, Eddie needed a little help. We sedated him so we could safely clip and clean the area, open it up, and allow all of that infected material to drain. As you can see in the pictures, once we removed the pus and cleaned everything up, Eddie's face went right back to its normal handsome self! ๐Ÿ˜ปโœจ

Eddie received:
๐Ÿ’‰ A long-acting antibiotic injection to help fight the infection
๐Ÿ’Š Pain medication to help with inflammation and discomfort
๐Ÿงผ A thorough cleaning to help get him on the road to recovery

And the best update? ๐ŸŽ‰ Eddie is back to his feisty self! (Which, for a cat, is basically the ultimate sign that they're feeling better. ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Outdoor cats are at higher risk for abscesses because even a tiny puncture wound from another animal can seal over and trap bacteria underneath the skin. If your cat suddenly becomes withdrawn, stops eating, hides more than usual, or develops swelling, it's always worth having them checked out.

We are so happy to see Eddie feeling like himself again! Keep being your sassy, feisty self, Eddie. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿพ When your cat brother is a little TOO good at his job... ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆ‡

Meet Bruno and Taquito โ€” a dynamic duo who keep life interesting! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Bruno is a handsome 1ยฝ-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff with a heart as big as his giant paws. ๐Ÿ–ค And then there's his "brother" (or perhaps more accurately, his tiny furry roommate ๐Ÿ˜‚), Taquito, a 2-year-old three-legged kitty with the hunting skills of a feline legend. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’ช

Taquito has always been an incredible hunter, and he loves bringing his "prizes" home to share with Bruno. Unfortunately, his latest gift was one nobody wanted... a bat that had found its way into the house. ๐Ÿฆ‡๐Ÿ˜ณ

Taquito caught the bat and, naturally, delivered it straight to Bruno for some quality brotherly playtime. (Because apparently that's what siblings do?) ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Because bats can carry rabies, both Bruno and Taquito came in for an updated rabies boosterโ€”even though they were already vaccinated. When there is a potential exposure to a bat, we take it seriously because bats can have very small bites that are difficult to see, and we often don't know whether exposure actually occurred.

๐Ÿ’‰ Why booster after a bat encounter?
Rabies is a fatal disease, but vaccination is incredibly effective at helping protect pets. A booster after a possible exposure helps strengthen their immune response and provides an extra layer of protection when there is uncertainty about what happened.

๐Ÿ’ก Pet Parent Tip: If your pet catches a bat or another wild animal:
๐Ÿฆ‡ Avoid handling the animal with your bare hands.
๐Ÿ“ž Contact your local Division of Wildlifeโ€”they can often collect the animal and submit it for rabies testing.
๐Ÿพ Call your veterinarian so they can help guide you through the next steps.

We are happy to report that both of these goofballs are now protected and back to their regularly scheduled adventures. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Birthday, Lillian! ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰

We've had so many reasons to celebrate Lillian lately, and today we get to add one more... it's her birthday! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’™

Not only has Lillian recently joined the Alpine Animal Hospital family, but she also achieved an incredible milestone by passing the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿพ What an amazing accomplishment, and one that's a true reflection of her dedication, hard work, and passion for veterinary medicine.

From day one, Lillian has jumped right in with a smile, a positive attitude, and a genuine love for helping both pets and their people. We're so excited to have her as part of our team and can't wait to watch her continue to grow and make a difference in the lives of our patients.

And if you are wondering who the stunning gentleman in Lillian's arms is.... allow us to introduce Jake! Jake is one of the most handsome Maine C***s you'll ever meet, and he was more than happy to volunteer as Lillian's birthday sidekick. After all, every birthday deserves a little extra fluff and a whole lot of feline charm. ๐Ÿ˜ป

Lillian, we hope your birthday is filled with laughter, good food, lots of love, and maybe a few extra puppy snuggles along the way! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’• Here's to celebrating YOU and an exciting year ahead!

Does your pet have "The Itch"? ๐Ÿ” Itchy skin (pruritus) is one of the most common reasons pets visit us, but the cause isn't always obvious!

Here are 3 common culprits behind the scratch:
๐ŸŒธ Seasonal Allergies: Triggers like pollen or dust often cause red paws, face rubbing, and ear irritations.
๐Ÿœ Flea Allergy Dermatitis: Just one flea bite can cause intense itching and hair loss near the tail base.
๐Ÿงซ Secondary Infections: Constant scratching breaks the skin barrier, leading to yeast or bacterial infections (look out for a musty odor or red "hot spots").

If youโ€™ve noticed any of these signs, don't wait for the skin to get raw! Let's get to the root of the problem together.

๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Birthday to Dr. Anne-Marie Biggins!๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰

It's a big year for Dr. Biggins, and today we're kicking off another reason to celebrate... her birthday!๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ’™

If you've had the chance to meet Dr. Biggins, you already know she's the kind of veterinarian who brings kindness, compassion, and plenty of smiles wherever she goes. Whether she's caring for her patients, celebrating their victories with their families, or making us laugh around the hospital, she has a way of making every day a little brighter.

This year is already shaping up to be one for the books, with an upcoming wedding ๐Ÿ’, exciting adventures ahead, and so many wonderful memories waiting to be made. We couldn't be happier to celebrate this special day with her!

Dr. Biggins, we hope your birthday is filled with everything you loveโ€”family, friends, laughter, cake (lots of cake! ๐Ÿฐ), and maybe a few puppy kisses along the way. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’•

Happy Birthday, Dr. Biggins! We hope this year is your best one yet! โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Meet Leon, a 6ยฝ-year-old German Shepherd and one incredibly handsome gentleman. ๐Ÿ˜ He came in to see us because his nose was becoming irritated again, and he was dealing with some serious itching under his armpits and around his groin. His skin was red, inflamed, darkened, and covered with little bumps that were making him very uncomfortable. ๐Ÿ’”

To top it all off, Leon has battled allergies before, so his mom knows all too well how frustrating they can be. Allergies in dogs are often a lifelong condition that can flare up seasonally or year-round, and managing them is often more like a marathon than a sprint.

After examining Leon, we found he had pyodermaโ€”a bacterial skin infection that commonly develops when allergies damage the skin's natural protective barrier. ๐Ÿฆ  Once the skin becomes inflamed, bacteria have an easier time moving in, creating an itchy cycle that's hard for dogs to resist scratching or licking.

Because Leon has had liver concerns with certain antibiotics in the past, we carefully chose a treatment plan that balanced clearing up his infection while keeping a close eye on his overall health. โค๏ธ

His treatment plan includes:
๐Ÿฉบ Antibiotics with careful monitoring
๐Ÿซง Medicated mousse to soothe the skin and fight infection
๐Ÿ› Regular baths to help wash allergens off his coat
๐Ÿฆ  A daily probiotic to support his digestive system while on antibiotics

We're hopeful this combination will have Leon feeling much more comfortable soon.

And of course, no appointment is complete without a little emotional support! ๐Ÿฅน Leon's beautiful sister, Anja, came along to cheer him on while she had her own bloodwork rechecked. โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿถ

๐Ÿ’ก Did you know? If your dog is constantly licking their paws, scratching, rubbing their face, or getting recurring ear or skin infections, allergies may be the culprit. Finding the right treatment often takes patience, but the goal is always the same: keeping your best friend comfortable and enjoying life again.

We're rooting for you, Leon! Here's to fewer itches, healthier skin, and getting back to being the handsome king you are. ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿพ
