🎉🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NATALIE! 🎂🎉

We have double the reason to celebrate this girl! 🥳 Not only are we wishing Natalie the happiest of birthdays, but we’re also celebrating her recent graduation from CMC and becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician! 🎓🐾🩺

Natalie is one of the newest members of our Alpine family, and we are SO happy she chose to join our team. ❤️

We love her generosity, her kindness, and her genuinely thoughtful heart. She’s the kind of person who loves to celebrate people, decorate for ALL the things, recognize accomplishments, and make sure everyone feels appreciated. 🎈✨ And somehow, she manages to do it all while being funny, down-to-earth, and always ready to learn something new.

🐾💙 Celebrating Our Veterinary Technicians! 💙🐾

It’s Veterinary Technician Week, and we couldn’t let the week go by without celebrating the incredible team behind so much of what happens at Alpine Animal Hospital. 🩺🐾

These are the people who draw blood, run lab work, place IV catheters, monitor anesthesia, assist in surgery, take radiographs, clean teeth, help in appointments, comfort nervous patients, educate clients, clean up messes (sometimes BIG ones 😳), and somehow manage to keep everything moving when the day gets a little… Alpine. 😂 And while we are all trained to do many of the same things, each person brings their own strengths, talents and expertise to the team.

We learn from each other. We teach each other. We step in when someone needs help. We celebrate each other’s strengths, and when one of us knows something better than the rest of us, we’re pretty happy to let them shine. ✨

And yes… just like any family, we occasionally frustrate each other, too. 😉 But at the end of the day, we remember the bigger picture. We chose this profession because we believe deeply in the human-animal bond, and we want to make a difference in the lives of both patients and the people who love them. ❤️🐶🐱

And we chose Alpine because we believe in what happens here — compassionate medicine, continued learning, supporting one another, and giving our patients and clients the very best we can.

And speaking of our team… you may notice that Amy, our lead technician, isn't actually in the group photo. 😆

But there was NO WAY we were taking a team picture without her!

So, naturally, we printed out a picture of her head, attached it to a popsicle stick, and Chey proudly brought Amy along for the photo. 😂😂

To Cheryl, Lillian, Danielle, Chey, Nayeli, Natalie, Amy — and all of the veterinary technicians who pour their knowledge, skill, patience and compassion into this profession every single day — thank you.

Thank you for the early mornings, the late nights, the difficult cases, the messy moments, the victories, the learning, the laughter, and most of all, for caring so deeply. 🐾❤️

🐾🇫🇷 Bullet Gets a Little Frenchie “Makeover”! 🇫🇷🐾

Meet Bullet! 💙 This silly, sweet little French Bulldog came to us from the shelter for a little medical TLC before heading off to find his forever home. And when we say a little TLC… we mean dentistry AND a little Frenchie plastic surgery! 😂

Bullet has very stenotic nares, which is the fancy veterinary term for those adorable little nostrils being way too narrow. 👃🏼🐶 When the nostrils are severely narrowed, it can make it much harder for a Frenchie to move air through the nose—and breathing shouldn’t have to be hard work!

Dr. Biggins performed a nares resection, using a wedge resection with cautery to open up Bullet’s nostrils and give him a better pathway for airflow. 🩺✨

And because Frenchie mouths can sometimes be just as crowded as their faces are cute, Bullet also got a much-needed dental cleaning. 🦷🪥

French Bulldogs and other brachycephalic breeds can have several anatomical features that make breathing more difficult. In addition to narrowed nostrils, some have an elongated soft palate—the tissue at the back of the mouth that can partially obstruct the airway. In appropriate patients, procedures to shorten the soft palate can also help improve airflow and make breathing easier. ❤️‍🩹

For Bullet, opening those little nostrils was one important step toward helping him breathe more comfortably and enjoy a better quality of life.

And while Dr. Biggins was doing her thing, Chey, one of our amazing veterinary technicians, was right there beside her—assisting with the procedure, taking care of Bullet’s dentistry, and keeping a very close eye on him throughout anesthesia. 🥰🩺 Anesthesia in brachycephalic breeds requires extra attention because of their unique airways, so careful monitoring from start to finish is incredibly important.

Now Bullet is one step closer to his next big adventure! 🐾🏡

We’re so excited to see this goofy little guy get the chance to find his forever family. We have a feeling whoever adopts Bullet is going to get A LOT of personality packed into one very squishy face.😂💙🇫🇷

🐻✨ Meet Bella! ✨🐻

We don’t get to see a lot of Chow Chows at Alpine, so when this beautiful, fluffy girl came to visit, we were ALL about it! ❤️ Bella is five years old, incredibly sweet.

Bella came in because she had been experiencing some lameness, and her family wanted to get to the bottom of it. Because she was uncomfortable, we decided sedation was the kindest way to get a thorough orthopedic exam and take her radiographs. 🩻💤 After all, when you’re already sore, nobody wants to be twisting and positioning you into awkward poses while you’re wide awake! And thankfully, Bella was an absolute sweetheart. 🥰

Interestingly, the discomfort didn’t appear to be coming from the knee as initially suspected. Her X-rays did show a small lytic lesion in the hip. 🦴

So, what exactly is a lytic lesion? It’s an area where the bone appears less dense—or more “lucent” or darker—on an X-ray, indicating some degree of bone loss or destruction. There are several possible reasons this can occur, so one finding doesn’t automatically mean something scary! In Bella’s case, arthritis and inflammation are possibilities, and we want to monitor the area closely to see how it changes over time.

For now, Bella gets some well-deserved R & R 🛋️🐾, and we’ll see her back in a couple of weeks for a recheck and repeat X-rays. We want to make sure everything looks stable and that her discomfort is improving.

And when it was time to leave? Bella bounced right out of here with the same adorable little Chow Chow swagger she arrived with. 😍🐻

When older dogs pace the floor or older cats vocalize in the dark, they aren't trying to keep you awake—they may be dealing with unmanaged joint pain, declining eyesight, or age-related cognitive changes.

💡 Quick tip: Simply plugging in soft nightlights in hallways and near litter boxes/water bowls can make a world of difference for pets losing their night vision.

🌼 When two Lilies walk into Alpine… you know it’s going to be a good day! 🌼

Meet Lily… and Lily! 💕🐾

One Lily is our wonderful CVT who was taking care of the other Lily — a beautiful 14½-year-old Golden Retriever who came to see us after several masses had become irritated and repeatedly ruptured.

Because of their size and location, we decided it was best to remove the masses and send them off for testing, making sure there wasn’t anything more sinister hiding underneath. Thankfully, her parents were on top of her recovery every step of the way, and the results gave us reassurance that we could focus on helping this sweet senior girl heal. ❤️

Some of her masses were in places that can be particularly tricky to heal, including her tail. The tail doesn’t have the same robust blood supply as other areas, and keeping a determined Golden Retriever from bothering a surgical site can be… well… a full-time job. 😂

Luckily, Lily’s family came prepared! They fashioned some very creative DIY recovery wear with T-shirts and pieces of cloth to keep everything covered and, most importantly, keep Lily from getting to her incisions. 👏🏼 No cone of shame required!

And last week, we got to see our golden girl again for her suture removals — and she was fully recovered, happy as ever, and strutting her stuff like the 14½-year-old queen she is! 👑✨

We couldn't be happier to see this sweet girl feeling so good. And we have to say… having two Lilies together makes for some pretty adorable pictures. 🥰

Here’s to many more happy, healthy days for Lily — and to her amazing family for taking such great care of her! 💛🐶
