When leaving an unsafe situation no one should have to choose between safety and their pets. With the support of our community, we are able to house pets and cover food and supplies costs. Families can get back on their feet without the added stress of worrying about their pets safety and well being until being reunified.

Who’s the girl behind Shae’s Strays?

A dog lover? For sure
Someone who genuinely wants to help others in need? Absolutely

But she’s also someone who’s been where you’re at and wants to make sure no one else is ever put in that situation of choosing between safety and your pets again.

Hi, my name is Shaleigh and I’m a survivor of domestic violence. Six years ago today I left my abuser in hopes of getting help for my children and myself. When I left for my children’s safety, I had a dog who was my best friend. (That handsome boy on our logo? Meet Leo, the dog where it all began) He couldn’t stay at the DV shelter and he was not safe staying with my abuser. Due to the selflessness of a church friend he had a place to go while I got back on my feet. Not only did she open her home to him, but she spoiled him as she did her own dog and never asked for a penny from me. I’m forever grateful for her and to have Leo with me to this day.
Years later I worked at that same Domestic Violence shelter and had multiple calls DAILY giving people the hard news that we could not let them bring their pets. Not a single one of them came after hearing that.

My mission with our organization is that Nobody has to choose between safety and their pets. While in our care I promise you your pet will not only have a place to stay, but will be loved like our own until they can be reunited with you💜

We’re so excited to share that Shae’s Strays has been selected for Neighborhood Co-op’s Wooden Nickel Donation Program!

Our donation box is officially active through December 31st, 2026!

If you shop at Neighborhood Co-op, you can support Shae’s Strays simply by placing your Wooden Nickels into our donation box near the exit

And here’s the really exciting part — Neighborhood Co-op will match Wooden Nickel donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $250!

You can also drop cash or coins into the box if you’d like to give a little extra.

We’re incredibly grateful to The Neighborhood Co-op for giving local organizations like ours an opportunity to connect with the community and raise funds for the animals we serve.
