Happy 17th Birthday, Tot! ๐Ÿฅณ

Tot is a De Brazza's monkey, a species endemic to central Africa. Their long, agouti (striped) fur gives them a unique coloration that allows them to blend in with their swampy forest homes. Cheek pouches allow them to store food collected from the ground and then eat it later in the safety of the trees! Tot is a small lady with a BIG personality. She enjoys solving puzzles, trying to intimidate zoo staff, and grooming sessions with her brother, Fry!

Happy 16th Birthday, Leela! ๐Ÿฅณ

Leela is a siamang, a species of small ape endemic to Southeast Asia. This species is unique among apes due to an inflatable throat sac that amplifies their call. Leela and her mate, Merlin, can be heard throughout the zoo when they sing! Leela loves to sunbathe, play in blanket forts, and spin like a ballerina! ๐Ÿฉฐ

See ya Later, Alligator! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Last week, Ike, the American Alligator, made his annual trip to the Reptile House where he will spend the winter in a heated enclosure. Keepers have target trained Ike, which allows them to get him to voluntarily enter this gator-sized crate. Then, he gets a chauffered to his new enclosure!

Today, we want to shine a HUGE spotlight on the incredible community groups who came out for Conservation Day at the Cape May County Zoo! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒฟ

These groups didnโ€™t let a little rain and gloomy weather stop them. They showed up ready to educate, inspire, get creative, and most importantly, make a difference for conservation. And boy, did they make a difference!

Together, these amazing groups raised $600 for conservation efforts!

And to everyone from the public who came out, visited the tables, learned about conservation, and donated โ€” THANK YOU for showing up, stepping up, and making a difference for conservation! ๐Ÿข๐Ÿฆ‰๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

Happy 29th Birthday, Scarlett! ๐Ÿฅณ

A special day is being celebrated at the zoo! Scarlett, our rhinoceros iguana, is enjoying her 29th birthday, a remarkable feat as rhino iguanas typically live 20 - 25 years in managed care. Coincidently, our new veterinarian, Dr. Winkel, is also celebrating her birthday today! Scarlett has developed a special relationship with one of her keepers, Mike, after bonding with him over the years he has cared for her. โค๏ธ

Happy Noodle Day! ๐Ÿœ

Meet Linguine, Rigatoni, Tortellini, Fettuccine, Ziti, and Ravioli! The capybara pups were born on June 18th to mom, Marigold. Since her favorite activity is to eat, the keepers wanted to name her pups after their favorite dishes. The first litter was named after cheeses, so this time around, they went with pastas!
