๐Ÿšจ Emergency Visit Highlight! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฆด

This sweet girl is Maggie, an 18-month-old Labrador who came to see us today after getting a beef bone stuck around her lower jaw. Luckily, she was such a good girl that we were able to safely remove it without needing sedation!

While Maggie is back to her happy, tail-wagging self, this is a good reminder that bonesโ€”especially cooked or processed onesโ€”can be dangerous for dogs. They can get stuck like Maggieโ€™s did, splinter and cause internal injuries, or lead to broken teeth and intestinal blockages.

If youโ€™re ever unsure about whatโ€™s safe for your pup to chew on, weโ€™re always here to help! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

โ€ผ๏ธ Confirmed Rabbit Death from RHDV2 in Douglas County, OR โ€“ 4/14/2025 โ€ผ๏ธ
The Oregon Department of Agriculture has confirmed a case of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus 2 (RHDV2) in a domestic rabbit here in Douglas County.

๐Ÿฐ What to Watch for in Rabbits (Domestic & Wild):

Sudden death with no warning signs

Fever, lethargy, or loss of appetite

Bleeding from the nose or mouth

Difficulty breathing or seizures

RHDV2 is highly contagious and affects both domestic and wild rabbits. It spreads through direct contact, contaminated surfaces (like food, cages, clothing, and hands), or even insects.

โš ๏ธ If you notice multiple unexpected deaths in rabbits:

๐ŸฆŠ Rabies Confirmed Nearby โ€“ Keep Pets Protected ๐Ÿพ

Five foxes in Josephine County have recently tested positive for rabies, including cases where people and pets were exposed. While we're not in that county, it's a good reminder that rabies is still present in our region โ€” and vaccines are the best protection.

Wildlife that can carry rabies includes:
๐Ÿฆ‡ Bats (most common in Oregon)
๐ŸฆŠ Foxes
๐Ÿฆ Raccoons
๐Ÿฆจ Skunks
๐Ÿบ Coyotes

๐Ÿ’‰ Vaccinate all dogs, cats (even indoor-only!), ferrets, and horses. Rabies is almost always fatal but 100% preventable with vaccination.

๐Ÿšช Secure your home and barns
๐Ÿ‘€ Report unusual wildlife behavior to Animal Control or ODFW
