And last but not least is Mandy and Hilda.

They were quite the pair this year pulling 4 of the 5 high point wins for Stockhorse but that doesn't mean they didn't have their struggles behind the scenes. Mandy wasn't even supposed to show Hilda this year but 3 days before the first show we realized our first pick wasn't a good fit and that happens sometimes. Hilda is always excited to go to work and Mandy had to be at the top of her game for every obstacle and maneuver. Did I mention almost everything Hilda knows Mandy taught her?

Great job Mandis congratulations on your year end win.

I am so blessed to have such a remarkable group of students.

Next up on the Stockhorse side is Kaisley and Theo.

Kaisley got the challenging young horse for her second year showing and first year on the Ranch side of life. Theo channels the emotions you throw at him and it forced Kaisley to slow down, take a breath and leave the mistakes behind her. She even pulled off a high point or two. She learned that quiet communication is key and that some horses have anxiety just like people and it is up to us to be the calm hand that guides them.

Way to go Kaisley on finding a way to communicate with your horse and execute solid patterns.

Moving on to our Stockhorse side with Amelia and Woodstock.

This was Amelia's first show season with The Crow's Nest and she came out full of determination. Show one may not have been what she wanted but Amelia locked in, made a game plan, knew what she wanted to work on every week nd came back to pull several seconds and even a first in trail. Amelia learned her horse's personality to a T and knew when to back off and when to push him. If something was hard she didn't throw up her hands and quit she just kept plucking along until it they got it.

I am proud of the horsewomen she is becoming. Way to go Amelia.

Finishing up our speed side of things with Mia and Robyn.

It took a minute to convince Mia to try speed, she likes Stockhorse and all the things that go into it. Once I got her convinced she dove in head first, finding that all those individual moving parts are still happening in speed only faster. This was only her second year showing and her first year going fast and she improved with every run, even riding Robyn to the mares personal best in all 3 events. I've never seen someone smile so hard with a down barrel when she broke into the teens. I think it's safe to say Mia may enjoy the quicker side of life.

Way to go Mia on a great season.

Jumping back to our speed division with Ashlynn and Theo.

Ashlynn had a horse change before the season even started and another after we got done with the first show. Theo is not a speed horse and he may never claim to be though he is a stand up stockhorse pony. Ashlynn brought her best to the table with their handicap and was willing to change things moments before walk into the arena in hopes of making Theo feel more comfortable in the new environment. She took each event in stride and just strive to improve her horse's ability ever chance she could.

You did great Ashlynn, I am so proud of how you handled yourself in a challenging and less than idea situation.

Our western open division consisted of Hayley and Woodstock.

Hayley battled a few horse 'oopsies' and kept the calm and collected demeanor that Woody did not always channel. She kept him calm even when the cattle could be spotted though the open door. Nailing leads and horsemanship patterns in the most effortless way. It was their first year doing showmanship and they exemplified a quiet calm in executing a pattern in hand. They tackled the gate for trail and worked the edge of the ring for pleasure without showing most of Woody's previous career all while tackling working on her degree.

Fantastic first year Hayley, you are going to do great things.

Into our newbies again with Tinley and Robyn in the walk/trot.

When we first started this adventure Tin was nervous about showing, about remembering the pattern, and performing it in front of people. By the end of the season she was setting up like an old pro. Face locked in stoic determination. Did every round go our way, no. Did we dust off and tackle the next like we had already won it, yes. I am so proud of Tinley's personal growth this year she really came a long ways as a competitor and I bet we will be seeing great things from her in the years to come.

Back to speed with Khloe and Kitty.

These two held their own in a tough crowd. Staying right on the tails of younger, faster horses. Sometimes in our pursuit of wins we fall short only to learn a more valuable lesson and Khloe walked away from this season with the most valuable of all. It's not always a race against someone else but a race to be better than you were yesterday.

I can not wait to see what Khloe brings to the competition next year.

Jumping into the walk/trot group with Mariea and Clair.

Clair hasn't seen a show pen in a long time and Mariea handled each step to the best of her ability. As a novice in the show pen she tackled trail, pleasure, and horsemanship taking each misstep in stride and coming to practice with a plan to be better at the next show.

For her first show season Mariea made goals and set to achieve them can't wait to see what she bring to the pen next year.

What a year we had. I may be a little biased but I have an awesome group of girls.

Kailee starts us off on the speed side of things with the Hilda Beast. They had a few learning curves to over come and though the pony is small she is quick. Kailee worked hard to make sure that she put in every ounce of self to make the best runs possible. Speed is a hard group to hang in around here and this team made it happen.

Kailee's growth as a competitor improved with every run showing that perseverance is key.
