FAQ ⚠️
(Im sure I will continue to add to this list so please check here if you have a question first)
⁉️ -Are you all by yourself? ❔
I cannot tell you how many times a day this question is asked 🫣 Yes, I am by myself. I don’t know if I will ever hire any help. My sister may come back to bathe for me, but as some of you know she is pregnant and due in July so it wouldn’t be until after the baby is born. IF, and what a big IF this is, I ever hire someone to help groom they would really need to be vetted. Everyone has an entirely different style of grooming and unfortunately in today’s world people are always trying to take advantage of someone. I will not train someone. I just am not cut out to be a teacher. I move too fast and do not have enough time to help someone learn to groom from me. NO I will probably not hire you or your friends or your coworkers to help me bathe. Bathing is not playing with puppies and kittens, it’s truly very hard work, and I really expect my dogs to be done a certain way to maintain the quality of the groom.
⁉️-Which phone number is best?❔
It doesn’t really matter but my cell phone (330-913-9857) is quickest way to reach me. The other number is the business number that my scheduling app has created (330-919-7606) and it will send your reminders from this number. It is also easiest for me to send a mass message to all my clients from the business number, as well as send you intake forms or multiple appointments. You can save both phone numbers, as I do use them both and they both come directly to my cell phone.
⁉️-You close at 3?❔
I don’t. I close whenever I am done for the day, but I did have to pick a time for the business and most days I am there until at least 3, but usually there later. So if you don’t get a call that your dog is ready by three, don’t panic, I’m just not done yet.😊
⁉️-Do you require vaccines?❔
I very much do (though I have been very slack on them due to trying to open and all the moves but coming soon everyone will be getting requested for the updated records to be put in). I require Rabies (it’s the law and if your pet bites you don’t want have no vaccine on record), I also require the DHPP for dogs and the FVRCP for cats. Distemper and parvo can be deadly, this also helps to protect the brand new pups I groom, the older dogs that cannot have this vaccine any longer, the dogs that have medical reasons and cannot get the vaccine, as well as my own dogs who come to work with me everyday. I do HIGHLY recommend the Bordetella vaccine as well, though I won’t require it bcz some people are very against it, but kennel cough is really rough to go through.
⁉️-Do you take walk-ins?❔
I have a few walk in services that I will provide. Yes, toe nail trims are one of them and you don’t need an appointment for it. I just would like you to text and let me know that you are coming so I know to expect you and you can make sure I am in so it’s not a wasted trip. I do not do any walk in grooms or baths, only the services listed under “walk in” on my price list.
⁉️-I don’t need a bath for my dog, only the groom. ❔
I know this isn’t a question, but a lot of people think that I will groom without the bath. Your bath and my bath are completely different. A dog without a proper bath takes a serious toll on my equipment, and my equipment is not cheap to replace or have sharpened. The haircut also is not as nice without a proper bath and blow dry. So no, your dog will always get a bath unless we cannot for medical reasons, and the price does not change if they cannot have a bath.
⁉️-Can I just meet you at your house?❔
NO! I do not travel, and I will not meet you at my house bcz it’s closer to you. When I was younger, I absolutely took the extra step to help people out and gain clients, but I’m at a place in my life where I want to leave work when I leave work. So I will not travel to your house, your work, your Grandmas nursing home, if you cannot bring your pet to me, AT MY SHOP, you’ll need to contact a mobile groomer.
⁉️-Why is my price different than what is listed for my dogs weight?❔
I do use my price list as a simple guideline for cost based on weight. However, if your dog has a longer coat, it takes me more time and product so yes it may cost you more. If your dog is fighting me for things (pulling its legs away, pulling its face all over, dancing all over my table) it will take me longer, which will cost a bit more. If I have to shave your dog before I bathe it because of matting, it will absolutely cost you more because this means I am essentially grooming your dog twice and shaving a dirty coat really puts stress on my tools and dulls them much faster. If your pup gets a longer clip, the sc******ng needed is much more in depth and will take me longer which will cost a bit more. Make sure you read the print at the top of my price list. I absolutely try my best to give you a good price range and keep your dog in that range, but some things I cannot predict.
⁉️-Will you fix the haircut?❔
Yes. Please look your dog over when you get home and let me know if something needs fixed within 48 hours. I am human, and can absolutely miss things. I’m also working on living, moving beings so there may be spots I have missed for some reason or another. If something is not to your satisfaction, I absolutely want you to reach out, you pay for your dog to look like you want them to look and never be ashamed of that! A couple of things to keep in mind though, you must let me know asap so I can get them back in as quickly as I can (they won’t get another bath so I need them back quickly), I can fix some things but some cannot be fixed (if your pup is jumpy for something then that needs worked on first and we have probably discussed that) I cannot put hair back onto your dog, and will not redo an entire clip down, I will also not give a refund (the work, time, effort and product have already been used/done).
⁉️-Do you groom cats?❔
Yes. They must be friendly (I will always try first) and they must be up to date on their rabies vaccine and FVRCP vaccine. Cats do cost quite a bit more for grooming as they are more “flighty and bitey”. Unfortunately a cat bite could cost me work time or my career depending on the severity, which is why not many groomers will do cats.
⁉️-Do you pluck/pull ear hair?❔
I DO NOT, this is because quite a few studies have come out with findings that pulling or plucking (which actually hurts the pups btw) ear hair opens the ear up for infection. IF the ear hair needs to be plucked for some reason, then it is best to go to your veterinarian and have them pull it out safely.
⁉️-Do you brush teeth?❔
I also do not brush dogs (or cats) teeth. Honestly, a lot of groomers will charge you an extra fee and do this, but the animal is not getting any benefit from it if they’re only getting the teeth brushed once every so often. In order for teeth brushing to benefit your pups, you should be brushing them daily, if not at least three to four times a week.
⁉️- Are you taking new clients?❔
I am always accepting new clients. However, I do tend to book out quite a ways so they will have to wait until my next available opening which is sometimes a month or more out. I have come to learn that lots of new clients tend to no show. If you are new and you no call, no show your first appointment, I will not reschedule you ever 🤷♀️. If this gets to be a habit for new clients I may switch to requiring a deposit to book, but as of now this has not been a terrible issue.
⁉️- Why are you booking out so far?❔
I am only one person and I’m doing it all (bathing, blow drying, grooming, reception, end of day cleaning). In the past, I very much could crank out 10-14 dogs everyday, but honestly that makes me feel rushed through dogs, and it’s not fair to the dogs who have to sit and wait forever. I do like to do a deep clean after my day is over to make sure the pups coming in the next day are not in dirty kennels and that takes me an extra hour also. I like to keep my days to about 7-9 dogs now and I feel like that is fair for myself and the pups.
⁉️- Why might my dog take 3-5 hours?❔
Sometimes my days get hectic. I don’t like keeping dogs longer that 3-3.5 hours but it does happen sometimes. Also the 3-5 hours is “per dog” so if you bring in multiples your pups will likely be in a little longer than most… two dogs takes me twice as long. I get a lot of people who walk in and ask questions, or come in for a walk in service like toe nail trim. Dogs have accidents, and I do need to clean those up fairly quickly so no one sits in them or makes the shop stinky (so please be sure to potty your dogs BEFORE coming in). Sometimes those dogs who have accidents need to have a second bath, which could make for an entire extra 30 minutes added to one dog, pushing the others further behind. I do not do many dogs “straight through” (I can but there is an up-charge and they must be my first dog of the day ), I like to have multiple dogs so I have plenty to work on while others are drying. Again, I try to get everyone’s dogs in and out in a timely manner so they are not sitting around and can go home to enjoy their humans, but some days I do need them a little longer than others.
⁉️-Why can’t we get in touch with you?❔
I’ll be honest, if you text me you will get the quickest response. I know some people do not like texting, and that’s fine, then please leave me a voicemail so I know why you’re calling and can get back to you. I cannot, or will not, answer my phone while I am grooming a dog (unless it is someone scheduled for that exact day, or I already have your dog) as I will not walk away from the dog on my table to schedule you an appointment. If you leave me a message, please give me 24-48 hours to get back to you. Sometimes I have a long day and need to rush home from work for something else I am involved in so I cannot return your call right away, or sometimes you call after I’ve already left or have the day off and I will return your call on my next business day. My emails are not monitored regularly, so I most likely will not answer those at all.
⁉️-Can you use a deshed shampoo or conditioner?❔
The simple answer is no. Could these products help, maybe but I’m unsure of all the extra ingredients added into them to make them “help” the hair slide out. I already use high quality products and honestly I feel like the deshed process itself is what works, not just the products.
⁉️-Will you shave my double coated dog?❔
If you would like your double coated dog shaved, yes I will do it. If it is easier for your dog to be shaved than dematted, yes I will shave it, if it is medically necessary, yes I will. BUT I will explain to you what could happen to the coat. It may not grow back properly… simple as that and I need you to know that before we do what needs done. I do believe (and they are coming out with more studies on this) that the coats that grow back in splotchy, or thin, or just not quite right, grow back in like that due to an underlying medical issue.
⁉️- Will you demat my dog/cat?❔
This really depends. If the matting is severe, there’s quite a bit, or all over the body, no I will not. I do believe in humanity over vanity and dematting your dog is not an easy process and it can be painful. I do a “maintenance clip” on animals, so I cannot always fix, in a few hours, what you have left happen in weeks. Keep in mind, these are animals not people. They do not understand why I’m pulling on their hair, why it hurts or what they look like in the end. NOW if there are only a few spots of matting, no I’m not shaving your whole dog. I might shave out those mats if your pup won’t tolerate them being dematted but that doesn’t mean the whole dog needs shortened. I will NOT demat armpits, behind the ears, sanitary areas, or any sensitive area on the pup for safety reasons.
⁉️-What do you do for “bad” dogs?❔
I will absolutely work with “bad” or “difficult” dogs. Now this does mean that the haircut may not look great, or something may remain not done (example:nails). If I cannot safely complete something but the dog seems manageable and able to be worked with, I’ll give them some time to get to know and trust me so we can complete these things. This could take multiple grooms, over months. I won’t push an animal past its limits to make it look “pretty”, it’s just not worth it. Now there are cases, rare but there are some, where the dog is just too aggressive, or too crazy. If the pup/cat is going to hurt itself, or severely injure me then the grooming stops and you will be notified.
PS!!! The business app I use has some really cool features and I’m trying to get into using them all for you guys (Which means that sometimes you’ll get multiple of the same thing bare with me bcz I’m learning also!). They have recently come out with a client portal (which I have a little QR code on my front desk and my front door for). This means you can go in and edit anything you need too (your information, dogs vaccines, new dog, anything!) You can also see all your scheduled appointments, I will always give cards but it is nice to know it is there and can be looked at. I’ll attach the QR below also!
