Update: Little Debbie has found a new home. Thank you for sharing, commenting, calling, and submitting applications. It has been a lot to keep up with. So many people cared and we had quite a few applications. We're so happy for her and her new owner! We will be giving updates to her previous owner.

Little Debbie is almost 9 years old and has spent her life in the home of someone we know and love very much. Her owner was a longtime shelter volunteer who has given a tremendous amount of her time and heart to the animals in our care over the years.

Recently, she had to make the incredibly difficult decision to surrender Little Debbie because she is moving into an assisted living facility. It wasn’t a decision made because she stopped loving her or because Little Debbie did anything wrong. Quite the opposite. She adores this cat and wants nothing more than for her to be safe, happy, and loved for the rest of her life.

Little Debbie is a very sweet girl who has known the comfort of a quiet home and the feeling of being completely adored. After nearly nine years with the person she knows and loves, finding herself in a shelter is a huge change.

Do you have a quiet home, a soft place to sleep, a little patience while she adjusts, and a lot of love to share? She has been loved her entire life. She deserves for that to continue.

Update: Goose has found a loving family to adopt her and is no longer at the shelter.

Talk to me Goose…

No matter how many times I’ve asked, she’s not talking about her previous life. She won’t say how she got so malnourished. How she ended up in the street. What happened to the life she used to know.

When she first came to us, Goose was heartbreakingly underweight with painfully long nails. You can see earlier pictures in our 6/8/26 post. Thanks to good food, lots of love, excellent veterinary care, and a little time, she’s put on some much needed weight and is a strong, happy dog. We have loved watching her transform.

Now it’s time for the best part of her story…finding her forever family.

Goose is sweet, resilient, and proof that second chances can change a life. One on one she likes to spend lazy hours in the office lying on her favorite blanket. When there are a lot of people around she gets excited and wants to greet everyone. She can be jumpy when she’s excited and she needs an owner who will help her work on that. We think she’d do best in a home without little kids because she will probably knock them down. She is about 2 years old, spayed, vaccinated, and ready for the life she deserves.

Update: Thank you for the calls, shares, and reactions to this post. Chase has found his purrfect home.

Meet Chase! This stunning guy was found found near Chase Bank when he was a tiny kitten. While his banking career didn’t work out, he’s hoping to make a solid investment in a forever family instead.

No, he doesn’t offer checking accounts, approve mortgages, or help you refinance… but he will pay you in unlimited purrs.

His only request? Be patient while he gets to know you. Once you’re approved, you’ll have a new best friend.

Final update - This sweet boy is home safe. His ears do look red in this picture, but they did not look that way in person or in the other pictures I took. There were no concerns for his health. He and his owner were very happy to be reunited. Thank you for sharing.

Update 7/27 - This dog’s owner called us last night and left a voicemail. We called back this morning and left him a voicemail. It is our hope that this exciting game of phone tag will end soon so this little guy can go home.

Do you recognize this little guy? He was found this morning and dropped off at the police station by a good samaritan. He’s safe with us now. Update: We’ve gotten in contact with the owner and this lovely girl is home safe.

Today, our office manager clocked out for the last time.

Saki wasn’t “just a shelter cat.” She was our office manager, our pest control specialist, and the judgiest of all judges. She supervised every thing we did, inspected every box that entered the building, sat on ever piece of paper she could, and made it very clear when she believed we weren’t meeting her standards. If you have visited our shelter you probably met her. She expected your attention, accepted your affection, and always acted like she was in charge. She was.

She loved being loved, and she was loved beyond measure.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Canton Veterinary Hospital for the exceptional care they gave Saki throughout her life. Thank you for helping her pass peacefully and for showing such genuine kindness and compassion to this ACO during a really tough goodbye.

The shelter feels a little quieter, and our hearts are a whole lot heavier. Our girl left behind a vacancy that we know can never be filled.

This bird was seen at a bird feeder in the Pinewood Road area this morning. Unfortunately, it left before animal control arrived. The residents were able to take these pictures and will be watching to see if it returns. If you believe this bird may belong to you, please call us at 781-575-6507.

Holiday Week Advisory #1

A dog's paw pads, while thicker skinned and resilient to more, but not all ground surfaces than our human hands and feet, are made up of living tissue and therefore can easily burn on hot sidewalks, driveways and streets. This can become extremely painful for a dog and it can lead to the need for serious and expedient veterinary medical attention.

🌞🐾For the foreseeable future, please consider only walking your dog in the early morning hours and/or evenings after the sun has set.

🌞🐾Perform a hand test before heading out for a walk or when even letting your dog out on your deck, and if you cannot hold the back of your hand flat on the pavement (or any surface on which the dog is to be walking/standing), for even 10 seconds, then it is too hot for your dog's paw pads.

🌞🐾At just 85°F air temperature, asphalt can reach up to 150°F in about 1 minute. Imagine when the air temperature is 10-15 degrees F higher.

🌞🐾Contact your vet or a vet ER/Urgent Care if you notice burns, especially if the pads show raw tissue, blisters, bleeding or if your dog can't walk or is avoiding puting its reddened paw(s) back down after being on any surface that absorbs heat.

The Canton Police have received reports of a black bear in the Green Lodge Street area of town.

While bear sightings can be surprising, black bears are a normal part of Massachusetts wildlife. In most cases, they are simply passing through in search of food and will move along if they don’t find an easy meal.

If you live in or are traveling through the area, please be aware of your surroundings and take a few simple precautions:

Secure trash and recycling containers.

Remove bird feeders and bring pet food indoors.

Do not leave young children out unattended.

Keep dogs on a leash and give the bear plenty of space if you encounter one.

Bears are wary of humans and making noise to alert them of your presence is normally enough to make them move on.

Never approach, feed, or attempt to follow a bear. This is not the time to get up close for a selfie.
