May Success Story: Alvin & Theodore!🌟
This month, we are thrilled to highlight two very special boys, Alvin and Theodore.
When Alvin and Theodore first came to HSFC, they were extremely fearful, unsocialized, and unsure of the world around them. Human interaction was unfamiliar to them, and trust did not come easily. These boys spent 10 months in the shelter system; 8 months in the shelter and 2 months in a foster home, waiting for someone to see the incredible dogs they could become.
That someone turned out to be their amazing foster family, who eventually made the best kind of decision: they adopted them.
Here is their mom’s story:
“Alvin and Theodore joined our family as fosters…. 2 dogs that should stay together if at all possible. We were excited to open our home to help them figure out how to not just be dogs, but to be someone’s pet!
They were very timid and unsure those first few days. Everything was new and different. HSFC found these boys running free, after a bit of time and a lot of work, they managed to safely bring them in to the shelter. Our goal was to show how awesome these two overlooked boys were, and why they belonged in a home, with a family to love them. We’re not sure they ever had a couch or a bed to snuggle on… suddenly they had everything they didnt know they deserved, and they didnt know how to process it. We gave them all the patience they needed, we respected their needs and met them where they were at.
We watched them start to open up, though quiet and standoffish, they started coming to us for affection. They showed us so many funny sides- like when Alvin would watch TV, or when Theo would herd us around the house! They had gone from 2 dogs that would hide in the corner of the yard, to 2 dogs that snore loudly in our bedroom! We knew there was no way they belonged anywhere else, just before Christmas we finalized their adoption. A true foster fail!
We recently watched them become foster brothers to a new shelter friend… Theo and her became fast friends, Alvin is okay with it but we’re sure questions why there is a girl here! She was someone’s pet before her circumstances changed and it has almost immediately opened their eyes even more to what being someone’s baby looks like! In just a couple days her love and presence has made them even more amazing! We are so thankful that they are the chillest dogs, they roll with the punches and trust us to protect them.
Everyone’s loss by overlooking them was definitely our gain 🩵🐾
They may have had an unsavory start to life, but the rest of it will be filled with love, treats and adventures 🩵.”
Stories like Alvin and Theodore’s remind us why fostering, adopting, and believing in the underdogs matters so much. These boys waited a long time for their chance, but they finally found the family they were always meant to have. Thank you to their adopters for giving them the patience, love, and security they needed to thrive. 💙🐾
