🎲 Yahtzee and Checkers are not playing any games when it comes to finding their family! This mother-son duo is available for adoption. They are back at the shelter to hopefully find a loving home soon. Yahtzee was brought in from one of our fosters as she was found outside and was very pregnant, close to giving birth to her kittens. Shortly after arrival, she had 4 babies and was the best momma in her foster home. Checkers is one of the boys who has been neutered and is officially available for adoption. Yahtzee loves playing with her babies, but will need slow introductions to other dogs and cats in the home. She will need time to earn your trust, but loves pets and getting attention from her people! Checkers is your typical 3 month old male kitten, affectionate and playful!

🎲 Both have been fully vetted: spay/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative, on preventatives and litter box trained! Adult cat adoption fees are $50 and kittens are $100.

⛈️ Storm, Thunder and Lightning have quite a story to share! Storm came to us after being discovered as stray with brand new babies. She had a pr*****ed uterus, which can occur during or within 48 hours of giving birth. Thankfully, she came to HSFC and our amazing vet partnership was able to repair her obstetric injury and reunite her with her babies in their experienced foster home. Even after all of that trauma, Storm was an amazing mother. She got right back to nursing and caring for her babies, like mothers do even after their hardest days. Once Storm and Lightning were old enough to be weaned, they went to a new foster where they are playing, growing and becoming social boys!

⛈️ Storm is the best girl and truly just like a kitten herself, as she is under 2 years old. She is social, affectionate, outgoing, confident and loves a good shoulder perch! Storm is at the shelter and ready for a loving home that she very much deserves!

⛈️ Lightning and Thunder are in a foster home. Apply and we will arrange for a meet and greet after your application has been approved!

⛈️ Storm and her boys are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV negative, on preventatives and litter box trained. Apply today!

Best Friends: Mabel & Cash 🐾

💗Mabel is a 1-year-old Boxer mix who came to us as an owner surrender. She arrived very scared, but has since started to blossom into a sweet, playful girl who loves kisses and chasing toys!

💙Cash is a 1-year-old Shepherd/Pit mix (~60 lbs) who also came to us as an owner surrender. He’s an active, friendly boy who loves people and does great with other dogs.

These two best friends have made shelter life a little easier on each other, spending their days playing and keeping each other company through the stress of the shelter environment. It’s nice having a companion like that—but they both still so deserve homes of their own.🐶❤️

🐾Cesar Is Still Looking For His Home!🐾

Cesar is a 2-year-old boxer/lab/pit mix who came to us with very little information, other than the fact that his owner simply didn’t want him anymore.💔

When Cesar first arrived, he was absolutely terrified. It took our volunteers hours just to gently coax him out, not because he isn’t a good boy, but because he was so scared of everything around him. He would sit in his kennel, shaking, unsure of what was happening or who he could trust.

But slowly… day by day… Cesar is beginning to open up.❤️

As the initial shock of the shelter environment fades, we’re starting to see glimpses of the sweet, loving dog he truly is. He’s learning that kind hands exist, that soft voices mean safety, and that maybe, just maybe, he’s going to be okay.

Cesar is going to need a patient, understanding home that will give him the time he deserves to continue building confidence. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who will never forget the love you showed him when he needed it most.

Help us show Cesar that he is wanted.🐶

May Success Story: Alvin & Theodore!🌟

This month, we are thrilled to highlight two very special boys, Alvin and Theodore.

When Alvin and Theodore first came to HSFC, they were extremely fearful, unsocialized, and unsure of the world around them. Human interaction was unfamiliar to them, and trust did not come easily. These boys spent 10 months in the shelter system; 8 months in the shelter and 2 months in a foster home, waiting for someone to see the incredible dogs they could become.

That someone turned out to be their amazing foster family, who eventually made the best kind of decision: they adopted them.

Here is their mom’s story:

“Alvin and Theodore joined our family as fosters…. 2 dogs that should stay together if at all possible. We were excited to open our home to help them figure out how to not just be dogs, but to be someone’s pet!

They were very timid and unsure those first few days. Everything was new and different. HSFC found these boys running free, after a bit of time and a lot of work, they managed to safely bring them in to the shelter. Our goal was to show how awesome these two overlooked boys were, and why they belonged in a home, with a family to love them. We’re not sure they ever had a couch or a bed to snuggle on… suddenly they had everything they didnt know they deserved, and they didnt know how to process it. We gave them all the patience they needed, we respected their needs and met them where they were at.

We watched them start to open up, though quiet and standoffish, they started coming to us for affection. They showed us so many funny sides- like when Alvin would watch TV, or when Theo would herd us around the house! They had gone from 2 dogs that would hide in the corner of the yard, to 2 dogs that snore loudly in our bedroom! We knew there was no way they belonged anywhere else, just before Christmas we finalized their adoption. A true foster fail!

We recently watched them become foster brothers to a new shelter friend… Theo and her became fast friends, Alvin is okay with it but we’re sure questions why there is a girl here! She was someone’s pet before her circumstances changed and it has almost immediately opened their eyes even more to what being someone’s baby looks like! In just a couple days her love and presence has made them even more amazing! We are so thankful that they are the chillest dogs, they roll with the punches and trust us to protect them.

Everyone’s loss by overlooking them was definitely our gain 🩵🐾

They may have had an unsavory start to life, but the rest of it will be filled with love, treats and adventures 🩵.”

Stories like Alvin and Theodore’s remind us why fostering, adopting, and believing in the underdogs matters so much. These boys waited a long time for their chance, but they finally found the family they were always meant to have. Thank you to their adopters for giving them the patience, love, and security they needed to thrive. 💙🐾
