💔 THEY WERE LOOKING FOR THEIR HUMANS… THE VERY HUMANS WHO THREW THEM AWAY. 💔
Saturday morning, on my way to our Highway 80 Garage Sale Fundraiser, I came across something that absolutely broke my heart.
Two dogs. Alone. Abandoned. In a business parking lot off Highway 64.
They were going from car to car, almost as if they were searching for someone.
Searching for their humans.
The people they trusted. The people they probably would have greeted with wagging tails, no matter how long they’d been gone. The people they believed would always come back for them.
But nobody was coming. 💔
I stood there watching these two innocent souls, and all I could think about was how incredibly cruel human beings can be.
These dogs didn’t ask to be born.
They didn’t ask to be brought into a world already overflowing with unwanted animals.
They didn’t ask to be someone’s responsibility.
But someone made them someone’s responsibility the moment they allowed their dogs to reproduce. And somewhere along the way, these two precious lives became disposable.
Thrown away like garbage.
Like they didn’t have feelings.
Like they didn’t get scared.
Like they didn’t feel hunger, confusion, or heartbreak.
LIKE THEIR LIVES MEANT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
And THAT is what makes me so angry.
People often ask why rescues are always begging for donations, why shelters are overflowing, why we can’t take every dog, and why so many perfectly healthy, beautiful animals are losing their lives.
THIS. THIS IS WHY.
Because people continue allowing their dogs to reproduce without considering what happens to the puppies.
Because people think, “Oh, I’ll find them homes.”
Because people refuse to take responsibility.
And because when those puppies grow up and become inconvenient, some people simply dump them on the side of a road, in a parking lot, or out in the middle of nowhere.
🚨 PLEASE, SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR ANIMALS. 🚨
I cannot stress this enough.
Spaying and neutering isn’t just about preventing one litter of puppies. It’s about preventing generations of unwanted dogs from being born into a world where there simply aren’t enough loving homes.
It’s about reducing the number of animals abandoned on our roads.
It’s about reducing overcrowding in rescues and shelters.
It’s about reducing the number of innocent animals euthanized simply because nobody has room for them.
Every prevented accidental litter matters. Every responsible pet owner makes a difference.
I wish people could see what those of us in rescue see.
The fear in an abandoned dog’s eyes.
The confusion when they realize they’re alone.
The desperation of a dog running toward every passing vehicle, hoping THIS one might be the car that brings their family back.
These animals don’t understand abandonment.
They just understand that the people they loved are gone.
I was supposed to be spending Saturday raising money to help the dogs already depending on Delilah’s Hope Rescue. Instead, I was reminded once again why rescues like ours are desperately needed.
And I am so tired of seeing innocent animals pay the price for human irresponsibility.
Dogs are not trash. They are not disposable. They are living, breathing beings who feel fear, pain, love, and loyalty.
If you cannot commit to an animal for its entire life, PLEASE do not get one.
And if you own an unaltered dog, PLEASE make spaying or neutering a priority.
Because somewhere tonight, another dog will be waiting beside a road, watching every car that passes, hoping the person who abandoned them has finally come back.
And the heartbreaking truth is… most of the time, they never do. 💔
