🐾 HAPPY VET TECH WEEK! 🐶🐴

What people think we do: cuddle puppies, love on kittens, and give horses attention. 🥹❤️

What we actually do: draw blood, run lab work, administer medications, hold for procedures, monitor patients, assist with treatments, handle emergencies, scrub joints, assist with lameness exams, take X-rays, hang IV fluids, and a million other things that never make it into the pictures! 😂

The cuddles are definitely a perk, but being a veterinary technician takes knowledge, skill, patience, teamwork, and a whole lot of heart.

This week, we’re celebrating ALL of our incredible technicians — both small animal and equine — who work hard behind the scenes to keep our patients healthy and cared for.

We couldn’t do it without you, ladies! Thank you for everything you do for our patients and their people. 🩷

Happy Vet Tech Week from all of us at Canon Hill! 🐾

🦷 Did you know your pet’s dental health affects more than just their breath?

Dental disease is common in both cats and dogs, and it can cause pain and discomfort even when our pets continue eating normally.

Watch for these warning signs:
🐾 Bad breath
🐾 Red or bleeding gums
🐾 Yellow or brown buildup on teeth
🐾 Dropping food or chewing differently
🐾 Pawing at the mouth

Regular exams help us catch problems early and keep those tails wagging and purrs going!

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. We understand how important it is for our pets to feel safe, comfortable, and surrounded by love.

We’re happy to share that Dr. Paquette will now be offering in-home euthanasia services for dogs and cats, allowing families to say goodbye in the comfort and familiarity of their own home.

Our hope is to provide a peaceful, compassionate experience for both pets and the people who love them during one of life’s most difficult moments.

If you have questions about this service or would like to discuss whether an in-home visit may be right for your pet, please reach out to our team. We’re here to help. 🤍

October is Adopt-a-Dog Month! 🐶❤️

There are so many wonderful dogs waiting for families of their own, and bringing a new dog home can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

If you're thinking about adding a new four-legged family member, remember that adoption is just the beginning. A new dog needs time to adjust, proper nutrition, preventative care, vaccines, parasite prevention, and plenty of patience and love as they settle into their new home.

And when you bring that new family member home, we're here to help you get them started on the right paw! 🐾

🐾 October is National Animal Safety & Protection Month! 🐾

Keeping our pets safe means more than just protecting them from the obvious dangers. Regular wellness exams, staying current on vaccinations, preventing parasites, and making sure they’re properly identified are all important parts of keeping our dogs and cats healthy and protected. ❤️

As the temperatures cool and the seasons change, it's a great time to check in on your horse's daily routine! 🤎🐴

🍁 Keep fresh water available
🍁 Monitor body condition as pasture changes
🍁 Stay on top of farrier and dental care
🍁 Watch for changes in appetite, energy, or behavior

A little extra attention during seasonal changes can help keep your horse happy and healthy!

A little reminder for your four-legged family members this week! 🐾🤎

Sometimes the best thing you can give your pets isn't a new toy or a special treat (although they certainly won't complain about those 😉).

It's a little extra time together. A walk around the neighborhood, a few minutes of play, a cozy cuddle, or simply checking in on how they're feeling.

Our pets bring so much joy to our lives, and those everyday moments matter more than we realize!

What's one thing your pet loves doing with you? 🐶🐱

🍽️🐾 September is National Food Safety Education Month!

Food safety matters for our four-legged family members, too! 🐶🐱 From what goes into their bowls to how their food is stored, a little extra care can go a long way.

Here are a few tips to keep mealtime safe:

🐾 Keep chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, xylitol, and other toxic foods out of reach.

🐾 Store pet food properly and check expiration dates.

🐾 Wash food and water bowls regularly.

🐾 Avoid feeding spoiled or moldy food.

🐾 Check for pet food recalls and handle raw diets with extra care.

A safe meal means a happy, healthy pet! 🤎🩺
