🐕☀️ Planning a lake day with your pup this summer? A little preparation can make the adventure safer and more enjoyable for everyone!
Before heading out, make sure to pack:
💧 Plenty of fresh drinking water and a bowl
🦺 A properly fitted life jacket for pets who are swimming or boating
☀️ Shade, cooling mats, or breaks out of the sun
🐾 A leash and secure collar with ID tags
🧴 Pet-safe sunscreen for light-colored or thin-coated dogs if needed
While many dogs love the water, it’s important to remember that not all pets are natural swimmers. Even strong swimmers can become tired quickly, especially in deep water, strong currents, or after long periods of play. Life jackets are a great safety tool for boating, paddle boarding, or extended swimming sessions.
🚫 Try to prevent pets from drinking lake or river water. It can contain bacteria, parasites, blue-green algae, or other contaminants that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, or serious illness. Offering frequent fresh water breaks can help reduce temptation.
After your trip:
✔️ Rinse your dog off to remove algae, bacteria, or debris
✔️ Check ears and paws for irritation or foxtails
✔️ Watch for signs of overheating, exhaustion, vomiting, or diarrhea
Safe pets make the best adventure buddies. We hope you and your furry family members have a fun and safe summe
