🫧 Unknown Groomer Facts (Pet Parents Usually Don’t Know)
1. Most groomers aren’t “just cutting hair.” We’re constantly watching skin, ears, nails, lumps/bumps, and coat changes.
2. Matting isn’t just ugly — it can be painful. Tight mats pull the skin, trap moisture, and can hide sores.
3. The dryer is often the hardest part. Many dogs tolerate everything… until the blow-dry noise/air pressure hits.
4. “He’s fine at home” doesn’t always translate in the salon/van. New smells, sounds, restraint, and vibration change everything.
5. We can tell if a dog is bathed at home (usually). Conditioner residue, tangles that “felt fine wet,” and packed undercoat give it away.
6. A clean dog doesn’t always mean a healthy coat. Dry skin, yeast, allergies, and dandruff can be present even right after a bath.
7. Shorter isn’t always easier. Some coats (and some dogs) take more time when going short because of prep, safety, and detail work.
8. Nails are a safety issue — not a “bonus.” Long nails affect posture, joints, traction, and can cause slips and soreness.
9. The “good dogs” still get breaks. Quiet stress is real. We watch for lip licking, whale eye, stiff posture, yawning, trembling.
10. A regular schedule saves money. It’s usually faster, safer, and less stressful than waiting 4–6 months.
11. We aren’t being “dramatic” about behavior notes. It’s how we prevent bites, injuries, and traumatic experiences for the dog.
12. We remember your dog. Like… truly. Their quirks, their favorite scratch spot, and what makes them feel safe. 🥹💙
