Dogs truly are human's best friends! Despite what you might be observing, dogs love to please, but to do that they deserve to know what you want. Jensen Huffman, of Huffman K9 Obedience training will listen to your concerns, he will help you to establish clear and realistic goals for you and your dog. He will help train your pet AND YOU to have an Obedient, Confident, and Happy dog that you can be proud of. Jensen Huffman has been training dogs since childhood, beginning his passion by helping his father train hunting and field trial dogs. Jensen is a OSSA (Oregon State Sheriff Association) certified K9 Handler for Wilderness Search and Rescue, has extensive experience training and certifying Wilderness SAR dogs, helping owners train dogs of all types in basic obedience, leash etiquette, and even scent discrimination and detection. At a bare minimum your dog deserves to know; Sit, Down, Stay, Wait, Hush, Speak (and hush), Come, Heel, Leave It and walk politely with you on a lead without pulling. When you learn to communicate and your dog is trained to listen, you and your dog will be more happy, more confident and safer for it!

Our hearts go out to Kylo’s handler, the Portland Police Bureau K9 Unit, and everyone affected by this tragic loss.

These dogs dedicate their lives to serving and protecting alongside their handlers, and that service deserves to be remembered.

That is why we pay attention to the small moments. What happens right before the behavior? What does the dog get from it? What keeps allowing it to happen again?

Those details tell us a lot about why a habit is sticking and where training needs to start.

The barking, pulling, lunging, whining, or losing focus gives us something to work with. We can see where the dog struggles, what sets them off, and what kind of structure they’re missing.

From there, we work on things like engagement, impulse control, leash handling, clearer commands, and staying responsive when they start getting worked up.

Living with a reactive or aggressive dog is exhausting in ways that are hard to explain to someone who hasn't been there. Constant scanning, planning routes, managing every visitor.

Here's what we want owners to know: needing help doesn't mean you failed. It usually means you've been paying close enough attention to know something isn't working.
