Not all pain looks the same. During Animal Pain Awareness Month, it's important to understand the difference between chronic and acute pain. Chronic pain is persistent and long-term, often caused by arthritis or ongoing conditions. Acute pain comes on suddenly and is usually linked to an injury. Dry eye isn't just a human condition. 👁️

Dogs can develop dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or KCS) when they don't produce enough tears to keep their eyes healthy. Redness, thick discharge, squinting, pawing at the eyes, or cloudy eyes are all signs that shouldn't be ignored. Early diagnosis and treatment can help protect your dog's comfort and vision.

🐾 ONLINE PET SHOW — HOW IT WORKS! 🐾

The J.C. Penney Day’s Fun Pet Show is going ONLINE, and we are so excited to see what everyone enters! 🧡💙

Beginning Saturday morning, September 26, watch our Facebook event for an individual post for each pet show category (with the exception of Best of Show).

Each category post will include the rules, recommendations, and what we’re looking for in that category. To enter, simply comment on that specific category post with the requested information along with a photo or video of your pet.

🐾 A few important rules:

* You may enter multiple pets in multiple categories.
* The same pet may compete in multiple categories.
* Make sure your entry is posted under the correct category post so our judges can find it!
* Entries must include any information requested in that category’s post.
* Best of Show will not have its own entry post — it will be selected from the pets entered in the other categories.

⏰ ENTRY DEADLINE: Sunday, September 27 at 11:59 PM!

🏆 Winners AND runners-up for each category will be announced Monday afternoon!

We may have traded the muddy park for Facebook this year, but we’re still planning to have plenty of fun. 😂🐾 Start digging through those camera rolls and getting your pets ready—we can’t wait to see your entries!

🌧️🐾 PET SHOW UPDATE! 🐾🌧️

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us this year! Due to the muddy conditions at the park and the forecasted weather, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the in-person J.C. Penney Days Fun Pet Show.

As much as we love handing out awards, we decided “Muddiest Mess” wasn’t one we wanted to add this year. 😂🐕🐾

BUT—we’re not letting a little mud ruin all the fun!

💻🐾 THE PET SHOW IS GOING ONLINE! 🐾💻

We’re working out the details now and will be sharing information on how to enter, categories, prizes, and voting soon!

🎉 Happy Birthday to our Large Animal Assistant, Brooke! 🥳🐄

Brooke is truly our right hand when we’re out on farm calls. She’s always hustling, always willing to jump in, and can do it all—from restraining small ruminants to running the cattle chute and everything in between.

And on the days she’s stuck in the office with us, those skills definitely don’t go to waste! She jumps right in with our small animal patients and helps wherever she’s needed.

Brooke is one of those people who makes the entire AVS team better. She works hard, keeps things moving, and is always ready to step in wherever she’s needed—whether that’s in the clinic, in the barn, or out in the middle of a pasture. We’re incredibly lucky to have her as such an important part of Team AVS! 🧡💙

🍂 Fall is here, which makes it a great time to prepare your barn for the changing season.

Before colder temperatures arrive, take a few minutes to check:
🍁 Fencing for damage or loose boards
🏡 Shelters for leaks or needed repairs
💧 Water troughs and automatic waterers to make sure they're working properly
🌬️ Barn ventilation to help maintain good air quality while protecting animals from the elements
