❤️ We Never Thought We’d Be Sharing Princess Again…

There are some phone calls you never expect to get.

After everything Pretty Pitty Princess had been through, we truly believed the next chapter of her life had finally begun. We watched her leave our clinic with hope in her eyes, a tail that never stopped wagging, and a family who wanted to love her. We all stood there smiling, watching her drive away, thinking to ourselves, “She finally made it.”

Then our phone rang.

Princess is back.

If we’re honest with y’all, our hearts sank. Not because anyone is angry. Not because anyone stopped loving her. Sometimes a home just isn’t the right fit, and as hard as that is, we’d rather see a dog come back than stay somewhere she can’t truly succeed.

We’ve learned something important about Princess that her future family needs to know. She cannot live with cats. She simply isn’t comfortable around them, and for everyone’s safety, she needs a home where there aren’t any.

We’ve also learned another lesson that we hope her forever family will take to heart. Princess is still adjusting, still learning, and she must stay on a leash or in a securely fenced yard. She was let off leash, spotted a squirrel, and did exactly what so many happy, curious dogs would do… she chased it. Thankfully she is safe, but until she has time to build trust and a bond with her new family, keeping her leashed isn’t taking away her freedom. It’s protecting her life.

Please don’t let those things make you think there’s something wrong with her.

There isn’t.

She’s not aggressive.

She’s not mean.

She’s not damaged.

She’s just a dog.

A goofy, playful, squirrel-chasing pit bull who gets excited about the little things in life.

If you’ve followed Princess from the beginning, then you know why this hurts so much.

When she first came through our doors, she wasn’t just another stray needing a home. She was suffering in ways no dog ever should. After her owner was incarcerated, Princess was left without the care she desperately needed. She came to us covered in painful mange. Her skin was infected. Her ears were infected. She was full of parasites. She tested positive for heartworms. She even had an untreated a**l prolapse that required surgery.

She was hurting from the inside out.

But somehow… she never stopped loving people.

She never stopped wagging her tail.

She never stopped looking at us like every person she met was worth trusting.

Over the next several months, Princess became part of our family here at The Animal Doctor of Camden. Every morning she greeted us with a wagging tail. She followed us around the clinic. She made us laugh when days were hard. We watched her hair grow back. We watched her body heal. We watched her confidence return. Most importantly, we watched her realize that people could be kind.

That’s why seeing her leave meant so much to all of us.

We truly thought we’d never have to write another post about Pretty Pitty Princess.

But here we are.

Looking into those same sweet brown eyes.

Watching that same tail wag every time someone walks through the door.

Watching her hope that maybe… just maybe… this person is here for her.

Dogs don’t understand what “returned” means.

Princess doesn’t know she lost another home.

She just knows she still loves people.

She still believes someone is coming for her.

She still greets every stranger with the same hope she had the day we first met her.

We owe it to her to make sure the next goodbye is the last one she’ll ever have to say.

Princess needs a family that understands she can’t live with cats. She needs a family willing to keep her safely leashed while she settles in and learns her new routine. Most of all, she needs someone who will look past this bump in her journey and see the incredible dog we’ve been blessed to know.

Around here in West Tennessee, we believe every dog deserves a place to call home. We believe some of the very best dogs have the hardest stories. And we believe with all our hearts that Princess’s story isn’t over yet.

Somewhere out there is a family who doesn’t even know they’re missing her.

🐾🌟 THE ANIMAL DOCTOR OF CAMDEN’S FIRST SHELTER PET OF THE WEEK 🌟🐾

Folks around here know it takes a whole community to care for animals in need. For years, The Animal Doctor of Camden has been blessed to work alongside the Humphreys County Humane Society and Waverly Animal Shelter, providing spay and neuter surgeries, routine veterinary services, and medical treatment for animals facing some of their hardest days. HCHS chooses to make the roughly 30-minute drive from Waverly to Camden when animals need our care. That means time away from a busy shelter, fuel, volunteers, and a great deal of coordination. We do not mention that to brag. We mention it because their decision to keep making that drive shows how much they trust our team, and that is a responsibility we hold close to our hearts. We love the folks at HCHS just as much as they love us, and we are mighty proud to call them our longtime partners and friends. 🤝💛🐾

💙🐕 MEET DAVIS 🐕💙

Davis is a handsome German Shepherd currently waiting at Waverly Animal Shelter, and his special adoption fee is only $25. These may be his newest mugshots, but Davis would like everybody to know he is innocent. His only real crimes are being far too handsome for his own good, believing wire kennels are a personal insult, and somehow convincing everybody he was an elderly gentleman when he is probably only around four years old. 📸🐾

Davis came into the shelter as a stray. The days passed, but nobody ever came to reclaim him. His teeth were in poor condition, so he was originally estimated to be around nine years old. HCHS later heard from one of his former neighbors, who knew him as Sam and said he was born in May 2022. If that information is correct, Davis is only around four. His worn teeth may have made him look older, but when he gets outside, stands tall in the sunshine, and flashes that big German Shepherd smile, you can see the younger dog who has been hiding underneath everything life put him through. 💔

❤️‍🩹 Davis’s story became even harder when he tested positive for heartworms and was brought to Animal Doctor of Camden for treatment. We know this boy personally because our team was there for that journey. His first treatment injection hit him terribly hard. Davis became so sick that one dedicated HCHS volunteer took him home to watch him closely because he truly believed Davis might be dying. For a while, everyone who loved him was afraid he would not make it. But Davis was not ready to leave. That stubborn German Shepherd held on, recovered from the setback, and came back to our clinic to finish what he had started. 🙏🐾

Davis successfully completed the remainder of his heartworm injections and stayed overnight with our team during part of his treatment. That visit allowed us to meet the dog hidden underneath all the noise and stress of a shelter kennel. With us, Davis was a calm, lazy, silly boy who was perfectly content to stretch out and soak up attention like he had checked into a little country hotel instead of a veterinary hospital. He also walked past kennels containing other animals without turning his head or causing any trouble. Davis can be reactive toward some dogs at the shelter, so seeing him relax with us showed just how heavily the shelter environment may be weighing on him. 🏥💙

After the injections came follow-up medication and a strict recovery period. Davis had to remain calm while his body healed because too much running, stress, or excitement could have been dangerous. Keeping a young German Shepherd quiet when he wanted to be outside stretching his legs was no small job, but Davis conquered that part too. He completed his heartworm treatment and survived the point when everyone was afraid they might lose him. The heartbreaking part is that after fighting so hard to live, Davis did not get to leave treatment and go home to a family. He returned to the shelter and continued waiting. 💔🏡

Davis is house-trained, active, affectionate, and happiest when he can spend time outside. He loves people and will nearly melt at your feet when somebody stops long enough to love on him. He can also be a runner, so his adopter must keep him safely leashed and secured. Davis must have absolutely no cats and would be safest as the only pet. An experienced adopter may be able to consider another dog, but any introductions would need to be very slow and carefully managed. 🐕❤️

While Davis was fighting heartworms and recovering, other dogs came into the shelter, were chosen, and walked out with their families. Davis remained behind. He still gets excited when somebody approaches his kennel, and he still hopes every leash might finally be meant for him. Somehow, after arriving as an unclaimed stray, nearly losing his life during treatment, and watching so many other animals leave, Davis still believes somebody is coming for him. 🥺🐾

Because our team was part of Davis’s medical journey, his adoption would mean something especially dear to all of us. We have already watched him come through our doors sick and fighting for his life. We would love nothing more than to see him return one day healthy and happy, with his leash held by a family who proudly tells us, “Davis is ours.” Until then, he will continue sleeping in a shelter kennel, waiting for a person he has never met but still believes is out there. 🏡💙

Davis fought far too hard to live just to spend the rest of that life behind shelter bars. His special adoption fee is only $25. If you cannot adopt him, please share his story. One share may be what finally carries Davis’s face to the person he has been holding on for. 🙏📲🐾

We did it!!!! Our Pretty Pitty Princess was adopted today!! It was a perfect match from the start! We can’t thank everyone enough who shared , liked, commented on our post and donated towards her recovery! Her horrible past is behind her! We are truly gonna miss her. Especially on our rough days, a minute with her could change our whole mood. The best part is we are going to be her forever Vet’s office so we will get to see her and watch her blossom!! Thank you to her adopters. We couldn’t have asked for a better furever family!! Also thank you Mason for writing such a heartfelt post!!

💔 She Survived Neglect. Now She’s Waiting for Someone to Choose Her.

Three months ago, Pretty Pitty Princess—our sweet Little P—arrived at The Animal Doctor of Camden in heartbreaking condition.

She wasn’t just neglected.

She had been forgotten.

Her owner was incarcerated, leaving her without the care she desperately needed. By the time she arrived, she was suffering from severe mange, heartworm disease, parasites, painful skin and ear yeast infections, and an untreated a**l prolapse. Every single day must have been miserable.

But through all of it…

She still loved people.

The team at The Animal Doctor of Camden refused to give up on her. They treated her infections, repaired her prolapse, gave her medicated baths, nourished her back to health, and surrounded her with love every single day.

Today, she’s almost unrecognizable.

Her fur has grown back beautifully. She has the funniest pitty zoomies. She melts into your chest when you pet her, closes her eyes, and smiles like she’s finally safe. She loves people. She loves dogs. She loves cats. To Pretty Pitty Princess, everyone is a friend.

But something has started to change…

The little girl who used to rush to greet everyone each morning doesn’t even get up anymore.

The girl who absolutely loved mealtime has started leaving food behind.

Every day she waits, another little piece of her happiness disappears.

She doesn’t understand why she’s still waiting.

She survived neglect.

She survived illness.

She survived months of treatment.

Now she just needs someone to tell her, “You’re coming home.”

Pretty Pitty Princess is ready to trade a kennel for a couch, a leash for backyard zoomies, and lonely nights for a family that will never let her feel forgotten again.
