🐾 Kennel Cough Awareness 🐾
We’re seeing reports that kennel cough has been going around recently, so we wanted to share a quick reminder on what to look for and how to help keep your pets healthy!
Kennel cough is a common and highly contagious respiratory illness in dogs. While many cases are mild, it spreads easily anywhere dogs gather together.
🐶 Common symptoms may include:
• A dry, hacking or “honking” cough
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Watery eyes
• Mild tiredness or decreased appetite
🦴 How it spreads:
• Coughing and sneezing
• Nose-to-nose contact with other dogs
• Shared bowls, toys, leashes, and surfaces
• Hands or clothing after handling infected dogs
✅ Ways to help protect your dog:
• Keep vaccinations, including Bordetella, up to date
• Avoid busy dog areas if cases are circulating
• Wash hands and sanitize shared items frequently
If your dog is showing symptoms, please avoid:
🚫 Dog parks
🚫 Daycare or boarding
🚫 Grooming appointments
🚫 Pet stores or other dog-heavy areas
Instead:
🏡 Keep your pup comfortable at home
👀 Monitor symptoms closely
📞 Contact your veterinarian with any concerns
Most dogs recover well with rest and supportive care, but helping limit exposure can make a huge difference in protecting other pets in the community. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe and healthy! ❤️🐾
