Crowe Animal Shelter was founded in 1970, by the Rev. In 1999, the Kershaw County Humane Society took over the management and operations of the shelter and in 2015 relocated to our Black River Road location. Now named the Thiel Meyer Adoption Center.

If you’re looking for a best friend who will fill your days with love, laughter, and endless kisses, then allow us to introduce you to the wonderful Valorie!

Valorie is a beautiful 2-year-old mixed breed who came to KCHS as a stray in March after being found lost and confused by a kind-hearted Samaritan. When she first arrived, she wasn’t quite sure what her future would hold. Thankfully, our staff did what they do best and showed her that she was safe, loved, and cared for. Before long, Valorie’s true personality began to shine brighter than ever!

Today, Valorie is one of the happiest girls around. She has made several doggy friends during her stay and still sees herself as a puppy at heart. She loves spending time outdoors playing with her yard buddy, and after a good play session, you’ll often find her stretched out in the sunshine soaking up some rays.

Valorie is also a world-class cuddler. She loves to shower everyone she meets with kisses and has a special habit of wrapping her front legs around you while resting her head on your chest, making sure she receives all the pets and affection she can get. ❤️

This amazing girl is now fully vetted, heartworm negative, and ready to become a part of your family! She has so much love to give and is patiently waiting for someone to give her the forever home she deserves.

Mona is a beautiful 2½-year-old Domestic Shorthair who is searching for her forever home through KCHS! This sweet girl is FULLY VETTED and ready to start her next chapter with a family of her very own. ❤️

Mona came to us last month through no fault of her own. Her previous family was moving to California and unfortunately did not have the means to take her along. While saying goodbye was difficult, we’re determined to help Mona find the loving home she deserves.

When you first meet Mona, she may be a little shy and unsure. It doesn’t take long to discover the affectionate, loving girl that all of us at KCHS have come to adore. Once she trusts you, Mona enjoys gentle pets, cozy naps on soft blankets, and spending her days watching birds and the world go by from a sunny window.

🐾❤️ Thank You for Another Successful TNR Day! ❤️🐾

A huge thank you to Turbeville Impact Incorporated and DoRe Ranch and Rescue for partnering with us for yet another incredible Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) day!

Thanks to the dedication, hard work, and teamwork of everyone involved, 68 cats were spayed and neutered. Every cat altered helps prevent future litters, reduces shelter intake, improves the health of community cats, and makes a lasting impact on animal welfare in our area.

Programs like these are only possible when organizations come together with a shared goal of creating a better future for animals. We are so grateful for the continued support and collaboration from Turbeville Impact and DoRe Ranch. Your commitment to helping community cats is making a real difference, one cat at a time.

Together, we are helping to create healthier communities and a brighter future for countless cats.

🐾 Meet Footloose 🐾

This adorable 8 week old mixed breed puppy is looking for a family who will love him exactly as he is — special, loveable, and absolutely unstoppable. ❤️

Footloose recently came to us at Kershaw County Humane Society after being surrendered through no fault of his own. He was born with a congenital birth defect called Ectrodactyly, also known as “Lobster Claw Defect.” This means Footloose was born with an unusual foot structure and does not have a typical paw.

But if you ask Footloose, he’ll tell you it doesn’t slow him down one bit. 💙

This little guy runs, plays, cuddles, and explores just like any other puppy. He has a heart full of love and a personality that shines brighter every single day. His favorite things include playing with toys, snuggling up close for naps, and being carried around like the baby he knows he is. 🥹

Footloose doesn’t know he’s different — and honestly, after spending just a few minutes with him, you won’t think so either. He’s simply a happy puppy looking for a forever family willing to see past his unique paw and straight into his beautiful heart.

🚨‼️URGENT: FOSTER NEEDED‼️🚨

Meet Quinn…🐶🐾

Quinn came in via animal control with multiple others. Since arriving at KCHS she has always been a very scared girl but the ones she came in with gave her comfort….until as of recent.

All her friends she came in with have now all gone and she was sadly left behind and is literally FROZEN in fear day in and day out.

The staff at KCHS are doing their absolute best to make her as comfortable as possible, but living in constant fear is not fair to her.

Quinn is a smaller breed girl who is full grown at around 20lbs. She is in DESPERATE need of a foster home with a calmer environment for her as well as patience. She needs lots of love and some time to decompress in order to gain trust as well as confidence.

We would recommend a home where she can be the only dog until she is ready since her fear is overwhelming for her and will not allow her to interact with anyone let alone move.

If anyone is able to provide a safe, quiet, and calm place for her so she can live a life free of fear…please submit a foster application today! Quinn needs YOU!

🐾 **Kershaw County Humane Society REALLY Needs Your Help 😫** 🐾

Right now, the shelter is operating at *triple* capacity. ❌️
-As a nonprofit that relies entirely on donations and community support, you can imagine how quickly everyday supplies disappear when there are this many innocent lives depending on them.

With multiple litters of babies, nursing moms, medical cases, and the daily care of every animal in the building, the need is constant. Items like **adult dry dog food, puppy wet food, kitten wet food, cat litter, p*e pads, and bleach** have become like gold dust around here — yet they are some of the most urgently needed supplies every single day.

Our amazing staff works tirelessly under an incredible amount of pressure to make sure every animal is safe, fed, clean, and loved. And more -
The last thing they should have to worry about is how they’re going to provide the basics for the animals depending on them. And this is where we know our community can stand up ! ❤️🫶

We truly understand that times are hard for everyone right now, and donations have slowed everywhere. But please know this: every single donation matters. Every bag of food, every container of litter, every pack of p*e pads helps more than you know. And TOGETHER we can do alot.
-Your support is what keeps these animals cared for, comforted, and given a chance at a better future.

At this moment, the shelter is in **DIRE need** of:
