Balloon Red Eye Tetra
The Balloon Red Eye Tetra (Moenkhausia sanctaefilomenae) is a selectively bred, round-bodied variant of the standard Red Eye Tetra. Known for its silvery body, distinct red eye rim, and black tail stripe, this peaceful, hardy schooling fish requires a minimum 20-gallon tank and should be kept in groups of 6 or more.
Care Requirements
Water Conditions: Temperature of 72–82°F (22–28°C) and pH of 6.0–8.0.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a mix of quality flakes, pellets, and meaty foods like frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms and brine shrimp.
Temperament: Peaceful but highly active. They are best suited for community tanks, though keeping them in a proper school helps curb mild fin-nipping tendencies.
Tank Setup: They thrive in planted aquariums with ample swimming space, driftwood, and places to hide.
Lifespan: 3 to 5 years
