Trainer Tip Tuesday!

If you are struggling with duration on a behavior (a sit stay for example) try using a marker word that specifies where the treat will come from!

Using “good” to signify “keep doing what you are doing, the reward will come to you” Whereas “yes” commonly tells the dog to come take it out of hand. It can get confusing for dogs!

Start close with short durations, and slowly work your way up in time held or steps away.

This can be used in a variety of different behaviors, even tricks! If you want your dog to hold a certain position, using a separate word can help clarify what you are trying to communicate to them.

Play groups are not always entirely playful, and that’s a good thing! Day camper, Stella, has slowly been meeting new friends and today she practiced being patient and polite with her new acquaintance, Tink.

Some dogs are rough and rowdy with one friend and careful and considerate with another. Stella is learning about the best of both worlds!
